I got my first set of leathers today, and I have a few questions
I figured I only wanted to buy once rather than replace them later
I got them on special before the new season arrives -
I got a black alpine stars suit (the alpine stars in white) 1 piece
I also bought a pair of alpine stars sp 2 gloves
also in black with white stars and carbon knuckles
I chose a size that fits me pretty snugly at the moment - I wouldnt want to get to much bigger, my main concern with the suit was How the armor fit me
so yea, the suits pretty tight which brings me to my first question - will it stretch ? currently the fit is spot on everywhere, will it free up though ?
My other question is while its new and clean should I spray something on it for when its wet ? - If so where do I get it ?
I would have got the 2 piece but the fit wasnt quite as good and they didnt have it in black..
p.s - im now convinced i have the coolest leathers , my whole getup is fucking mean - new helmet last week with blue iridium visor - the last piece of the puZzle will be boots - hope someone comes through for my 21st next week...

Yip they do stretch but only in the place where it needs to. it will become more comfartable as time drags on On the cleaning side boomer is you man for blingy stuff!
Good work on some proper gear!

My knockoff Alpinestars jacket has held up pretty well so bet the genuine stuff is as good as it's meant to be. I would've purchased them instead of my Spool suit but the price was a major deciding factor at the time.
Anyways, good on ya for getting decent kit - it must look pretty funny without proper road/race boots to finish it all off.

good stuff bro. You can get some waterproofing products, most shops should have them, i know that cycletreads do. Get my licence back on xmas day, will have to catch up on boxing day for a ride!

Good stuff bro. You will never regret buying good gear, especially if it looks good.

I find they give a bit more when they are warmed up (in the sun) but they tighten up a little again when they cool. Kind of a temporary stretching.

Now all you have to get is some alpinestars boots, I've got myself the whole alpinestars set up and im bloody happy with it. the only thing that Ive got that isnt alpinestars are my gloves.

I always find it's best to get leathers that fit as tight as they can because they do give in the areas they need to and this means once they are 'run' in, your armour will stay exactly where it's meant to in an off.
Mine were so tight to start with I could hardly breath or walk and my gloves hurt around the knuckle area. Now, they fit me perfectly without unnecessary give and an added feature is the amazing streamline effect you get cutting through the air. Espcially noticeable on a naked bike. :)
Just use a good leather care product from time to time. Leather is shower proof only at it's best so I always carry a set of thin waterproofs under the seat in inclement weather in case.

Hey dood,
Congrats on the new set of leathers hope it makes you feel comfortable and confident, I've been wanting to get myself some as well but haven't been around doing it yet.
I have full set Aplinestars as well (textile jacket and pants) with KBC VR 2 series helmet. The SP 2's are awesome gloves except I had to get something like XXL lol.
Try their boots as well nice and light and good solid make. Have had one for a year without any problems. They are S-MX 3 and I got my one for about 500 hundi should be cheaper now and blady hell good value for money I tell ya.
I am surprised that you went for the one piece. Did you try the GPU 2's? They are pretty good and they can always order and get them in for you at the same price. Well generally speaking, most stores can.
By the way where did you get it from? If you go down to Holeshot and see Jamie there he should help you out with the boots aye. Tell him I sent ya so I can get more discount when I go there next lol..hehe Good luck!!

Sure you can pay less, but you get what you pay for. Some cheap suits are made from many pieces & have seams in impact areas.
Some people argue that good gear makes you ride carelessly, but I'm sure you will be smarter than to fall into that trap.
Only kniggle is with tight one piece & you mentioned almost 21. When I was 17 I was like 9 stone, then when I hit 20 I became 10.5 overnight then 25 11 &abit. In my 30s more still. I'm not at all fat - but if you start off slim you can 'fill out'. I got my first leathers widened down the sides (even my knees got bigger?) then moved onto another set but sold the old ones. Just watch what you eat if your parents are a bit porky (mine are slim), it took me a while to realise you can't keep eating like a teenager.
None of this should dissuade people buying good gear. You only have one body & the older you get the less that sounds expensive.:done:

Ok am looking at getting a pair of boots this weekend and was hoping for some help.
Im not sure of the ones I want, however Ive tried the ones I like
ALPINESTARS - black with white logos (that colour is important)
I dont think they are tech 8's and they are not the s-mx range..
Apparently they are the top of the line just over the s-mx ..
Anyone know the model I am talking about, they go for 550 bucks at cyclespot honda
Can anyone reccomend the best place to get boots (these specific ones)
For a good price and likely to have a few different sizes other than cyclespot ???

I'm looking at getting some Spyke leather's when I get my full and bigger bike, I quite like the textile jacket I have from them. Any opinion on their stuff?

A friend of mine has one of their one piece suits (bought through Cycletreads) and he pavement tested it on its second ride. Seems to be pretty well put together and survived a slowish lowside rather well (a bit of scuffing and some of the lettering torn up on the arm is all that happened). Aaron Slight was sponsored by Spyke for many years and certainly tested a number of their suits very heavily.

Tried a pair of boots today,
they were alpinestars black and white S-mx r's
Are these the best ones I would want for the road?
The other alpine stars - like tech 8's and the others that seem to be aimed more at motorcross, are these suitable for the road ?
They seem to be a whole lot more solid and confidence inspiring ..
Does anybody use motocross boots for the road or do you lose to much feel ?
I plan on buying in 2 days and like I said the smx r's felt sorta flimsy...

ebay is your friend. what size feet you got? You can borrow my bohemiths for the track day if you need to.
with MX boots the sole is usually too thick for road bike rearset setups. Anything that has good ankle protection and some form of structural stiffness will serve you well.

It my feel solid but I think they are too bulky for road use, the SMX are nice and light and of good solid material.
Check some info on : www.alpinestars.com (http://www.alpinestars.com) mate.
You can even measure your feet size and try boots at local shops and just order them from the website direct, would work out a lot cheaper!
Well that's what I am doing for my first set of leathers, GPU's 2's at shops from here $1400 NZD throught website $900 NZD delivered within 5 days! :)
But just make sure it is model that they stock in NZ market and not a top of the range models that they don't get here.

Go to Motomail and seek their advice, they know their products and will point you in the right direction.....
Just a basic point, boots are very specialised there are race boots, road boots, sport boots, touring boots, enduro boots, MX boots etc etc.
Decide what sort of riding you are doing first.
