View Full Version : 250 ride 31st December 2006

McJim
23rd December 2006, 14:06
For the last 250 themed ride for 2006 we're planning a 300km round trip. Because of the distance we recommend that all attending riders be comfortable travelling at 100kph on the open road.

Maverick would normally be doing all the organising but he will be off having Christmas in Sydney so you just have to put up with me. :)

Route will be divulged on the day - meeting point details will be sent by PM to everyone who signs up 2 days before the run....I cannot be arsed dealing with people signing up on the morning or having to spend 30minutes answering PMs on the morning of the ride (when I should be putting fuel in the tank of my bike!).

The ride will be an earlyish one as we appreciate that people will have some serious piss ups to attend that evening. we will therefore try to get back to populated areas at a decent hour.

Not heading to Coro I hope, my bike can go 100 (just) but I don't fancy lane splitting and/or queuing on SH2!

Hope to make it this time. Happy Christmas everybody.

Depending wich way you're headed I might join you. I'll be in Auckland that weekend and may be heading home on the 31st. Would be keen to join for a while if you don't mind a big bike joining in for a cozy cruise.

Glad you fellas are willing to fight over TEC - remember there's a responsibility with that position.

TEC is the one that pulls riders out of ditches, untangles them from electric fences, dusts them off and sets them back on the road again.

TEC is not just the slowest rider....

My bike has got 'Harbourbridgeophobia'. Spoke to the fellas a Botany Honda when it got it's last service and they said there's nothing can be done. I just need to wait until I am allowed to prove I can ride a bigger bike - then I will prove that I can ride a bigger bike and get something capable of travelling the motorways of this fine land and finally see what exists north of the harbour.

In other words 'Yes' the ride is staying South of the bridge.

Everyone who signed up for the ride has now received a pm from me detailing the time and the place and the route. If you're late that means you can reach one of the Waypoints mentioned and catch up the rest of us to talk shite at lunch time.

All the best,

SO, I will be there bright and early - with me PVC pants in me bag, ready for whatever nature throws at me, 'cos there ain't NO way in hell I am missing the last ride of the year.

Its a good opportunity to take your time, ride your own ride, and log some K's - if you feel its a little too much, you can always decide to head home at the point that suits you :) I have done that before and there is absolutely no shame in doing so

If I rode depending on the weather, I'd never do any miles.

Throw ya wet weathers on, and if need be, hit the warehouse and get some cheap yet illuminating PVC gear, and come along.

It's only water! Ask McJim or Mav about my first 250 ride... take a bit to beat that for precipitation and cloud farts!

Calendar Link here:

http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/calendar.php?do=getinfo&ea=attend&e=1085

I will meet the pack..

Can you Pm the ride details please..So I can try to meet up..:)

Gutted... I'm on call tonight, so hopefully the phone stays quiet and I won't be hauling my arse out of bed in the wee small hours.

I don't come off call until 0800 - so I'll be in the carpark at work at 0759 to drop the company van off, waiting for the other fella to come in, then fanging home in my cage, getting my giggly gears on, and heading off to meet with a few other KBers for a convoy to the meeting point - got to get some shit talking time in, although I usually more than fill my quota each day!

Worst case scenario, if I get a few call outs tonight (each one can last an hour and a half) I might be a bit on the tired side tomorrow, so might miss the ride...

Hoping for a REAL slow night... (no matter HOW good the O/T rates are...)

With you on that one.

I'll be there - the bike seems to be fixed, thanks mostyl to Erik's hard work, although we never managed to completely nail down what the problem was - it just seems to be working now.....

Just got back from a call out, woman at the hospital reckons it's going to be a quiet night.

Bloody hope she is right!

To those travelling distance to join in tomorrow, ride safe, keep the rubber on the road, and look forward to seeing everyone there!

This little biker has a secret love...
Don't ride Cagers!
This little biker will miss a 250 meet...
Avoid the Popos!
This little biker is having a little cry...
Oh bugger it!
This little biker hopes you have a good ride!

Gosh a rootie, darn it to heck and fiddlesticks and Sugar Honey Ice Tea :crybaby:

I missed the last twofiddy ride of this year and all :weep: Guess I'll have to make up for in the new year by doing some more mad pootling and thrashing my poor little ol'Hornet around!

I'll be on Waiheke on a family outing ... with no bike ... :weep:

Have a safe ride you guys! McJim is going to have his hands full today with all his usual Squadron mess buddies off the roster! (Oh, wait...his life will be easier!)

And Donor will probably singing "Daisy, Daisy, give me your answer do..."
And Fub@r will be blinding the flock with his crepescular lighting effects...
And TDLV8 will be giving Donor Heart Attacks with his backfiring....
And McJim will be having a Jim Bean at the end of all of this...
And starting sentences with "And" is to be frowned on...
And gijoe1313 will never start making sense...
And I better leave it at that...
And Apologies to all those I haven't commented on...next time!

Me... :bye: Went to meeting point, had the usual chats etc. Figured I didn't need to check pressures, as I had done so just a couple of days ago. We left, after being split into 3 groups.

Just heading out to Whitford, on the first overtaking lane from Howick, I go over the bridge, up the right hander, and overtake a bike and car in one swoop. Tip the bike into the fast left hander at xxx k... and the bike went all over the show. :shit:

Took it easy to Whitford, unsure of what was going on, and feeling the bike to see if I could figure out. At Whitford, told the fast group TEC to carry on, as I had felt the rear, and it was really soft. Checked pressure at Whitford, it was a little over 100 kpa, when normally it should be 275. No wonder it handled badly :gob: Pumped it back up to 275.

Continued on to Clevedon, wanting to see if it was random, or a problem. Caught up with the medium group, informed their TEC so he knew. Shortly outside Clevedon there was a shiteload of cow shit right across the road (and it had been raining for a while). Tip toed through, but overtaking a car down the next straight, either there was shit on the tyre, smooth tar, or the soft rear, and I lost all traction, with the rear going left and right on me.

Mind was all over the place, nothing felt right, so I packed it in, came home, found myself losing more air, but home safe.

I hope the weather gets better for them, it was raining a fair bit...

Jeez....I was worried for a second there G! As for the cow fertilizer - yeah I found that too.....i unleashed the demons a little early and did a nice rolling burnout till the crap all came off my tyre......man cowcrap is slippery!

Was initially planning on a ride to Raglan with ZRXER (remember that) but the bloody Homo decided to go on this ride which I wasn't going on, and wanted to, because said homo wanted a quiet ride down Hwy 22. Make sense..? Anyway he's not such a big homo because him, Blairos and Micro (awesome bike man) turned up at my place and we rode up to the lighthouse that McJim couldn't find..! Had a few ales at the Kentish and caught up with a whole bunch of faces (sorry about mine guys) to put to names. Probably JSG's last KB ride as he is off to give Aussies some advice how to beat the pakistanis at cricket. Welcome to the East coast lot. Missed signing yer concrete leg there "Young at Heart" and sorry we didn't chat though I caught up with yer other 66.666%. Nice blokes. You know what? ALL the rain in the world comes from Clevedon! I went that way home, after hanging around in Waiuku for ages, til it got too hot, then was planning to go home the same way we came only got a bit lost in Papakura, so went to Clevedon along the main route, just before Clevedon it started really hosing down AGAIN. Got to the coast at Duders and the sun came out.

Anyway, I learnt my lesson, this time I did NOT stop to put on my sexy yellow pants, so didnt end up giving the bike a 'little lie down'...! With no studly bikie gang to help pick it up it wasnt worth the risk, so I just got soaked. Got home so late that HWMBO was sure I was dead or in jail or something.

Sorry about Chickadees bin, glad she is ok. I hope that lovely jacket is ok too!

Thanks again for organizing these rides, they rock, (I roll).

:gob: Well, I only found out this morning from my little sojourn out to Whangaparoa to the Busa's new years eve party...

Chickadee binned!? Glad to hear she's okay and it sounds like there were some mitigating factors that helped ... like wearing the right gear! A little birdy told me that "If you have proper riding pants, you need to wear them!"

Sounds like another characterful 250 themed ride - the usual carry on up the Hunua type fiasco! Good thing theres plenty of road for everyone to ride and get lost on!

As for me, after I finished up at Waiheke - I swapped the family driving duties in the cage for my little ol'Hornet. I made Whangaparoa by heading to Wellsford... :o and then resisting tempation to travel to Whangarei for a subway snack, I took the SH16 route instead (several times... :innocent:) before finally realising I needed to head to the Busa's party!

Met some more colorful and characterful KBers and put some more faces to nicknames!

Right time to eat some brekky and sort myself out for this new year thingy!
Big ups to all those who helped out McJim on the group stuff and those helping out where they can!

Yeah, thinking about it, it did seem to be quite localised over Hunua/Clevedon all day.

Ran into Death, Inc and White Trash arsing around in a car park on the way home.

Not a dubious honour at all - a pleasure.

In fact I think the mighty GN250 exists purely to give pleasure to all.

1. Pleasure to those who own and ride and love them.
2. Pleasure to those who hate them by giving them an object to take the piss out of.

Even though you have a great looking and nice Honda, you too now have a fond GN memory as having it as the first vehicle you passed - see, it's just a beautiful thing!

And as for the yellow pants of doom - New years day was beautiful out East so I didnt even take them to work, as a result I had to stop in at the Warewhare on the way home and now I have some lovely green ones. The gear collection grows....

People don't actually hate the GN250 - it fills a niche in the motorcycle market. It'll be a thing of the past soon cos of yamaha's new 225 road bike and the fact that they're stopping Ginny production (I hear).

Brand new inexpensive 250 to learn on - I'll bet Chisanga paid $8,000 for his bike. How much change would you have got from $8,000 when you bought the Ginny? That's a lot of lollies.

About $8300 once on-road costs are factored in :)

It's funny that it was a choice between the VTR and the GN for me... I had the money available and for my size I thought the VTR was the best choice. Still think the GN is a great deal though for the price... GN is a very polite bike too... they prostrate themselves in subservience at their owners feet when they stop to put on waterproof pants :done:

Yeah I think you made a good choice too. I've noticed that I am half on the pillion seat when I ride, if I slide forward to where I would be right on the 'drivers' seat, my legs are horizontal til the knees and I look like one of those kids on the minibikes. And I'm only 169cm. (5'6 ish)
