Been a bad week. Rushed back to the UK to see my gravely ill sister and she'd died before I got there. Too young and so sad.

Came back to allow leave to be taken for others over Xmas. 2 days travelling, getting home yesterday (Fri) afternoon. Going to work this morning, mind somewhere else, rode into a van on a Hamilton roundabout.

Purely my fault. Suddenly there it was and I was going to hit it. Major anchors and a slew, still hit on the front passengers corner. Went airborne and ended about 15 metres from the point of impact.
Ended on my back feeling not to bad apart from an achy ankle.

Trip to A&E for a very long wait to confirm broken ankle. Other bruising but not serious.

Thank fuck for wearing good gear. My Sidi boots saved a much more badly broken ankle. My Quasimoto gloves have road rash on the palms and my Spidi leather/textile suit has rash marks, too. They all did the job.

A couple of mates picked up my bike for me and they say it doesn't look too bad. Even the cops were pretty sympathetic.

In a plaster for 6 weeks. Going to miss a lot of riding and fishing. Bugger!

Condolences for your loss

And bummer re your mishap, which roundabout was it. We live close to the notorious Greenwood St one. Not what you need just before summer, being stuck in cast. Pleased you were in good gear to save your skin.
All the best for your recovery.

Yes, I was jet lagged but felt ok. Shiftworkers (days and nights) tend to live in a limbo world. My wife hasn't done any thing but sleep since we got back but I feel "normal". Obviously, I wasn't.
Roundabout was SH1, Te Kowhai Rd, by Placemakers. Poor buggers were going home after their last nightshift.
Cops asked me me what happened. I said "what did the driver say" that's it, I said.
Really bugger, bugger is that I wasn't insured. Never thought that I'd be the cause. My bike (2500) + car (1500) is a really expensive excercise in saving money.
Roll on 2007!

Sorry about the loss of your sister. That sucks. As above you are still with us. A good thing.

I crashed the Gixxer on the Taupo track on Friday. Nice slid and wore the leather pants out. Two small holes where the leather folded and took the brunt of the weight. The only pain was from the plastic zip that melted in the leg of the pants and let a small part of the leg get burns from the track.

Good gear is the only way to go. Keep saying it and others will get it in time.

Take care and heal well.

Sorry to hear all that mate :( What a bummer of a week alright!

Oh, well, you can join me with the broken ankle club and bikeless for a while while summer continues to roll on by :( IF you can call it summer yet.

Yep, good gear is awesome. I'm going to get some real good boots. My Forma touring boots were real good but can't help thinking that if I'd had a solid plastic ankle etc, I probably wouldn't have broken my ankle. Tough call really, but good boots are better than no boots.

Take care mate. Hope it all pans out for you.

Dude. Add my condolences to the list. We all gotta go some time but it sucks extra more when it's someone young. Hopefully you have some awesome memories. Heal well.

All Of The Gear All Of The Time = AOTGAOTT = Likely to live.
Good on you for wearing your gear, it can be a little heart breaking looking at the tally for replacing the gear but it will help if you think of it as money well spent.

Condolences and heal well!
