Icy in Christchurch this morning all

Bloody roads were icy this morning. Going to work this morning and saw this bike doing all of five k's on the road. Big Jap bike. Sooner him than me. One of our busses smashed up the front. Slid into something.

Ohh.... just a wee bit, On the news tonight it was said there there were countless aco's and that 14 were in hospital all in seperate crashes.
Well stuff me if dick heads wernt driving at twice the speed limit, you could see it happening every were ya look I was suprised that no one went up the ass of me.... one c/s leant on his horn at me as I was doing 55 in a 60 well he got passed then took a right hander and ended up facing the way he came.
Yesterday a lady died on the m/w 2 k from were I live the weather was the worst that it has been all year.... but did people slow down, NO
un bloody belivable..... maybe I'm just getting old, make that older.

Two guys in Trevor Pierces today one on a GPZ750 and another on a FXR150 both decked it on ice,drove past two cars on the way to work that had gone off the road.

Damn glad I pulled a sickie today that's for sure. The frost was still thick at 10am when I finally pulled myself out of bed. :cold:

Going to be at Brighton for the Henry Ford day on Sunday, I know it's cages but any KB-ers going to be there? - and will it be icy? - I have a 400km drive. :eek:

Sorry,I'd like to but I've got my licence confirmation,borrowed two bikes and going racing,we'll be at the track from 10.30 to at least 4.30 then probly in the clubrooms afterwards.

There is a club day at Runapuna, BEARS & Buckets I think so If you get the chance call out there.

It's just a gathering of Fords of all types (vintage/classic/hot-rod) and a cruise of 70km+ around Ch-ch, to Akaroa and back via a lot of back roads.

I was there in my hot-rod truck.

Oh yeah, it was good to see a lot of bikes out and about while I was driving around, with the weather as fine as it was I can see why they were on the road.

probably loads of accidents because you guys aren`t used to that kind of weather.We get about 2 months of the treachourous stuff around New Year time,but apart from the odd dork people are aware of it and no more accidents than normal.Still see plenty of bikes being used.Our roads get covered in salt at the first hint of icy roads,Honda`s stand up to it a lot better than the other makes,one reason they`re very popular here.One bike mag once said that the condition of a used bike depends more on how many brit winters it`s gone through than mileage,Yamaha brakes tend to seize up,Kawasaki`s dont like to run at all at much below -2 and Suzukis dissolve pretty quickly unless you really look after them.There`s a new magic spray out here from Scottoiler called FS365 which seems to finally be a cure to the road-salt/crappy ally problem,used it regularly on my Fazer and it came through winter with flying colours.riding in winter really sharpens up your riding skills and you learn featherlight braking,gentle throttle and clutch use,either that or you fall off.I`ve ridden through every Brit winter for 20-odd years,only time i ever left the bike was when my RD250LC froze solid in the works car-park,since then I always keep them covered but just in case always leave the choke out,that way at least they`ll normally start(well it`s always worked for me)and once the engines running it`ll thaw everything out pretty quick.Leave it in and like anything else with a cable it`ll freeze up pretty quickly at -4 or so.if the roads slippery always warm your engine up properly before starting out,you really dont need a coughing and spluttering motor when you want to be concentrating on getting things smooth and thinking about what your doing.Always make sure you`re warm as well,especially if you`re not used to cold conditions,if your bodies cold it`s not long before that starts to affect your concentration and hypothermia is a lot easier to get on a bike than many realise,not good on 2 wheels.

Nowhere near as bad as you South Island guys, but we live on a hill, and the "s" bend at the bottom ices up in frosts. One winter years ago we had about 10-12 frosts in a row, and by the last couple it was still icy at 2pm! (doesn't get much sun in winter). We go and check it out on frosty mornings in the car before we take the bikes out. Touch wood it's not been bad this winte. sunday was a bit icy - we also had ice on the outside 1/2 metre of teh Silverstream bridge, and ice galore on the sides of the roads round Kaitoke. The Takas were fine and dry though, just a bit damp at Jim's Corner.
