Underseat pipes and throwover panniers?

I am going to be doing some mini-touring this year and have a top box thingy I got from tardme. thinking I will also need some panniers and have used nylon throwover ones previously: anyone used them on a bike with underseat exhausts?

I have a Honda Hornet 900, pipes are stock and with stock heatshields.

The soft panniers will be fine. I have had soft panniers over the top of the heat shields and at most they just get a bit warm.
