Okay,
Who on Thursday would like to spend the day tripping to Napier and Taupo and back to Wellington again? Just for the hell of it.
Was thinking of taking in Vinegar Hill, Pahiatua track and maybe a backroad to Napier / Hastings if it is viable.
Anyways, I'll be leaving Rimutex at about 7:30, and will probably be back there by 19:30.
No specific route details because I have not decided what order to do things in.
Only come if you are prepared to ride all day at a reasonable clip.

Its running better at least. Electrics still stuffed and still no fuel tap but its running alot nicer and could probably do with a bit of a blast.... Went out over Piecock on Sat and that was fun but im itching for a "decent" ride!

When you head up to Auckland for your holidays...... check out this place as they have a box full of fuel taps.... ok you will have to rummage throu them all. So if possible bring up your old one as to make sure you get the correct one.. as there are many types of Fuel taps etc in the big box.
No Guarantee's that they have the right one in the box throu.

Yep they just had a closing down sale...... but he is still operating to get rid of the last bits.
Tis worth giving them a quick phone call to see what day's he will be open.

I thought all 800km rides were the same length. How did you manage to find a short one? Hope you get a good turnout. consider this a friendly bump for your thread.

I guess they could make it a short one by spending long hours riding :dodge:

Was hardcase to ride along into Napier just by the airport, and wave to a biker and pillion on the other side of the road to then think, "that looks like LBTW's helmet", then see the hubby behind me slow to a halt behind me, and realise it was!!! :gob: Haha, nice one guys, hope you had a good ride and you made it back safely!

Yep, and with minutes to spare before this became a 2 day trip :)
So it was a day trip, in a sense.

Fark youre slow LBTW...nice one bro :niceone: good to see you made it back ok.Yeah, the backroad(s) from Masterton to Waipukurau took a lot longer than expected. Very much worth it though. Have you ever been to Wimbledon? Didn't get to Napier till 1:30/2pm.
Chance meeting with Sels1 in Taupo saw us instead of doing Vinegar hill, going up Whakapapa and getting some photos and then rolling down with our engines off. I saw nearly 80km/h with no engine.
Pictures later.

Pity about the gravel hiding on many of the corners due to storm damage, really made me keep the speed down. None-the-less; I will be revisiting this road in the future though. I think a ride out there, but just to Napier and back, is on the cards at some stage,

Thats a great road... but yeah gotta watch out for them I nearly had a bin once from the same thing... I was lucky no other vehicle was on the road..
The gravel was right in the apex of my corner and well... to tell you the honest truth I don't know how I didn't bin... but I did go wide...

I rode it in October last year, only a few weeks after the floods. Every corner had gravel and it was a 4 hour ride from Wellington to Waipuk (two up) on the GS1200ss.

None-the-less; I will be revisiting this road in the future though. Bit more scenic than the main drag don't you think? What gravel on it isn't that bad. It's an addictive bit road. One thing to be carefull of also is road slippage and the odd tree fallen over if there's been lots of bad weather.
You can cut out to the coast at Waipawa, there are roads that link towards the coast between Waipuk and Waipawa, and come in behind Te Mata peak, or though Havelock North, then on to Napier as well.

I too did an 800ker the day before we met up at Taupo. Kapiti - Napier - Gisborne - Tauranga. After overnighting at Tauranga had a bit of a cruise down to Taupo and sat in the hotpools for a while. I was just sitting on the side of the road after gassing up wondering whether to go to Napier or head home when LMTB comes along heading south so decision made. Another trip up the mountain, looks different without so much snow and deserted.
Riding into the sunset made for a long twilight and man did we collect some bugs on the screen and visor.
Some pics: first of the Tiger in the Waioweka(sp) Gorge between Gisb and Opotiki and a couple up the mountain.
