On the way home from Taupo my ZXR 250C speedo needle vibrated itself to death (good way to go if you are a girl, not so much if you are plastic). It has broken near where it attaches to the center of the speedo. As you can see, the broken part is laying at the bottom of the speedo. I assume the fix is as simple as opening the speedo and attaching the needle back with a staple and some velcro. The thing is, I'm not so sure how to get the facelate/cover off the speedo. Any tips?

So I'm pretty much of the opinion now that these speedo things can't be opened, except via, maybe, a can opener. Am I correct in assuming I wouldn't pass a warrant with half a needle?

The only solution then, would be to buy a second-hand, entire speedo unit from a wrecker. The problem then is, clearly the odometer will be way off to what mine is now. Is there somewhere you go to get this legally changed? Again, given the difficulty of opening the bastard, I'm not so sure changing the odometer reading would be so easy anyway.

I'm over this, if there's going to be needles, there should at least be nurses.

Depends on how anal a WoF inspector you get. The speedo just has to indicate speed. If there is enough of a needle left for you to be able to tell where it's pointing to, then it indicates speed. But others might not agree.

Take it into one of the instrument repair places , they can prolly fix it.

Use Carpies guide to disassemble the gauge -

Although the Kawa gauges are different the principle is the same.

Send it to EW Parrot & Son, St Asaph St, Christchurch. They'll diassemble it and fit a new needle.
