I need to get access to some welding gear to weld a small nut to my subframe.

Basically, the grab rail at the back - one of the bolts had a stripped thread, and I've tapped out a new larger thread (from M8 to 3/8 UNF) into the nut on the subframe - unfortunately this nut couldn't hack the pace and its broken off.

I want to weld a new nut (a proper 3/8 UNF which I have) onto the subframe. A bit of a tricky job, but once I've removed the rear plastic fender it should be easy. I imagine bronze welding would be the best option as the subframe's tubing, but I'm open to suggestions.

Anyway, if anyone has some gear and can help me with a fifteen minute job, it would be much appreciated.

I have a gas welder if you want to borrow it.

Do you have welding experience? I bought the set recently and is still building up my skills. I have done a fair bit of normal welding(RED HOT) but not a lot of brazing.

I am also not sure if you will be able to do normal brazing on a sub frame.(Made of Aluminum, right?)

Thanks for the offer degrom. I'll be in touch. I haven't done any bronze welding since high school but it should come back to me hopefully - after all, its just like soldering really...

As for the subframe, I'm in luck. RF's have a steel frame and subframe.

Cool just let me know when you are ready. (I have the brazing rods as well,so you don't have to worry about buying any....)
