WAIKATO RALLY 16-17TH OCTOBER

Hi all, here we go Waikato Rally time as promised, I am organising what I hope will be a fantastic weekend for all Kiwi Bikers and their partners.
The general idea is to ride through some of my favourite roads all Saturday ,enjoy a great night in Tokaanu (by Turangi) together complete with a soak in the Hot pools a proper resturant dinner have a good few drinks at the locals local and crash in a good motel cabin establishement, wake up to a yummy BBQ'd breakfast and ride home. All you have to do is ride and have fun, everything else is soughted.

** Simple Maps provided to all who Book
** Support vehicles and trailers following the route(thanks FF)
** Prizesgiving for various things (exempting fastest etc)
** Donation of $5.00 per head to Spankme's site costs
** Good accomodation

** Bike parking garaged for 12, outta road view outside cabin doors for rest
** Wife and Girlfreind freindly (see accomodation)

The roads are all sealed and the roads are probably some of the best motorcycling roads in New Zealand featuring tight twisties to open corners to a few (not many) longer straights.

Where we are staying.

On site resturant, On site 30,000 litre heated pool, spa and mineral pools also

I have wangled a good deal with the owner of the Tokaanu Oasis, he is a bloody top bloke keen on helping as much as possible.

We have Motel units available to accomodate 17 couples (max)

We have Cabin rooms bring a sleeping bag and throw it in a support vehicle for the trip these are shared and we can accomodate 36 singles (max)

We can accomodate a few more if needed
Children could stay in the Motel units if youre a couple and book a motel unit as there are single beds in the rooms.

Bring your Partner !!! we will organise cars around who needs and who is driving etc, if any?

Costs Okay the money stuff cause of my fantastic negotiation skills I have managed to get these awesome rates.

Single $54.00 per head Total
Couples $62.00 per head Total

NB Buy Your own fuel, coffee, munchies and booze

Cost breakdown is
Single accomodation $17.00 per head, Double $25.00 per head PLUS
meals $27.00 Plus $10.00 for support vehicle and Spankme donation. All leftover (if any and there shouldnt be) goes to Spankme. This is completely open Book stuff I aint making anything on the deal.

Okay the HARD WORD!!!

I must have confirmed and paid bookings by Friday 10th September at the latest.
I have to pay 50% deposit for the deal by THAT date. It is not refundable, we are going on those dates

I'm in. October sounds good - daylight savings stated by then too but I would prefer it not be held on 9th & 10th as I will be Boozing in Bathurst. Weekends after this would be all goo tho. Pretty sure my lady would be pretty keen too.

It's very tempting, but I'm not gonna say "Yup", as the last two things I said I'd go to I couldn't. I don't want to look like a piker/liar/blowhard/eedjit.
(I'll just keep it in mind, and not say too much, so the Biker Gods don't sabotage my plans again...)

hey Qazzie, Mrs F/F said she would bring our car and bike trailer if needed
will hold two sports bikes, comes with big tool box, straps (read tie downs), spare tyre and can also carry spare fuel if required, would need a firm date closer to the time as she works most saturdays, but can get it off if well planned.

COOL COOL thanks to you and Mrs FF :headbang: .
Thats the date at this stage but can confirm a month out.
I am thinking hard about the cost thing of the whole event included will be fuel costs of those support vehicles additionally will be the costs of the accomodation and food. Booze is on site there and a Pub is up the road :puke: .
So Im thinking no more than $60.00 per head hopefully less.

Im going to invest a bit of time and love into this ride, I want it to be a goody.
I will be contacting the motorcycle importers for spot prizes and will be holding a couple of events on the night of the piss up (all for Fun)

Already nervous about the weather!!! :confused2

Yeah it is open to everyone of course fast slow short tall etc etc, its a good chance to socialize a bit and enjoy ourselves.
If you left Tokaanu at 11.00 am you would be home by 2.30 easy 1 hour to get ready for work and chill then 1/2 to get in the job
Hope you come along.

Hi Guys looking at the weekend of 16-17th October at this stage for this trip
I have been talking at length to the accomodation spot, Oasis Tokaanu, we have struck a pretty good deal on rates etc ,goes like this

Motel Couples $25.00 per person max 17 couples (34 people)

Cabins singles $17.00 per person max 36 singles (36 people)

Dinner and breakfast deal is not yet finalised but will know in a couple of days.
it will be BBQ style, Pub down the road for Saturday night

FireFight has graciously let us use his trailer for any bike breakdowns and gear storage.

The big issue Im having with this is I have to pay a 50% deposit on the Accomodation which personally I aint doing cause I know what some of you buggars are like if its raining :spudwhat:

So I need to get an idea of numbers now and I also need to get suggestions about the payment options
1/ 50% deposit payed direct to Tokaanu Oasis (could be messy)
2/ I ask for the full amount ie sell a ticket? and pay out of the funds (im not into profit here but wouldnt mind throwing Spank a few bucks)
3/ 50% deposit forwarded to me by cheque (payable to Oasis Tokaanu)I note your attendance and pass payment on to the Oasis

Personally Im thinking I will sell tickets with close of by the end of August simply because it is easiest some of you know where I live.
I have to work it all out but Im thinking it will cost around $55.00 for everything including meals (except booze) this will leave enough for gas on the support vehicle and enough for a donation to Spanks server costs

Let me know your thoughts guys

PS I hope some from south get there arses there to (as its in the middle of the north Island)

Cheers :2thumbsup

Hiya there Brett

I think selling tickets is the best idea, that way you get a firm committment. I'm in as will be Jane I'd suspect as she will want to spend time with me (and in fairness I should give her some Mal time) after my jaunt at Bathurst the weekend before. I should be coherant by then too.

Just a thought. have you discussed bike security with them. I've spent some time in the Turangi territory when holidaying in Kuritau (and spent time in the Tokaanu pub) Some of the locals are scary, (others are very friendly mind you). And with number of flash bikes (incl. a certain 2004 Kwaka) it might raise some interest locally??

I can speak to Oasis re; this if you like??

Hi Vtwin, yes I have spoken to them re Bike security and there s parking right around the back at the doorstep of the cabins so 1/ not visible from the road and 2/ within ear shot of heaps of very protective bikers. It would be nice to have a big shed to put them in but this wasnt available.
I think we need to take some responsibilty for this ourselves ie a lock.I guess no matter what you do this is an issue but I think we will be fine
Good that you are coming though fantastic :niceone:

Once we get closer to knowing numbers & who is doing what, I may need to determine whose partners may be taking cages as the first day of 364km plus the 120-150km from Aucks to Hams could be getting a bit much for Miss VTR on the back of the bike. I may have to organise to bundle her in a car somewhere. (of course there is a personal motive here too - I get some time to ride solo!!!). I know she is good for 300 or so kays but I generally only stop once in that so with the more frequent stops we tend to do as a group she could be ok, but I could need a back-up plan.

sweet quasi - but no you wont see me on the ride sorry - still painting 3 bikes to match new ideas... And Dont worry brother the Van will be there! Weve got it sorted, dad + GF on my 400 to hammytown and ill drive van, then they will prolly be in van most of the rest of the way, just take short stints on my bike... so kinda alternating around - shouldnt cause any issue i dont think? Apart from my bike takinga fair beating from the big guy.

Hi again Quasi, I've just written the cheque and just got my fingers crossed that something will work out with the kids, I'm really looking forward to it, haven't done anything remotely exciting for 20 years, so lets hope I don't have a coronary! ( joke). That's me and A toad 2 old and slow on ancient jap cruisers. Lets hope they make it! And thanks again for your awesome efforts doing this.

Costs
Single $54.00 per head Total
Couples $62.00 per head Total

Cost breakdown is
Single accomodation $17.00 per head, Double $25.00 per head PLUS
meals $27.00 Plus $10.00 for support vehicle and Spankme donation. All leftover (if any and there shouldnt be) goes to Spankme. This is completely open Book stuff I aint making anything on the deal.

Firstly, shoudnt the cost for a couple only include half, not all the cost of a double room? Hence a couple is $25 (room for two) plus twice $27, plus twice $10? Making it up to $99 per couple, or $49.50 per head

Nextly, count me in, will pay soon if possible (see your PMs)

Hi posh hows it .
Okies its all per persom, not room rate ie the motelier is charging (not me)
$25.00 per person + $27.00 for the meals + $10.00 for costs ie fuel for support (tho they dont want it) and site costs spankme donation.
So its $62.00 for a couple room each
Single is less as the motelier is only charging $17.00 per person for accomodation + the other stuff.
Am I missing something?
Will check pm ,good that youre coming!!!

No worries Quasi, just wondering, because it is more expensive per person to be in a double room than a single.... it doesnt make sense to me... unless the singles are share rooms and the double rooms are more well appointed.

If thats the way it is then thats ok, I was just making sure

Concerning the single/share rooms (cabins really). I have stayed in these and two things will be important - 1) good sleeping bag, they are feckin freezin, 2) earplugs - 4 riders in one cabin - there has to be at least one SNNNOOOORRRRer. It will be a gas.

Pick someone up on my sexy beast, and we'll be riding all weekend no worries.... Pick someone up on that rice rocket and there will be saddle soreness after only a few hours...

Being more into long-term relationships, I know which one I'd prefer :D

when I was a nipper of 16, I drank rum, too much and awoke one morning naked surrounded by newspaper, apparently I had had to have my stomach pumped due to excessive alcohol intake :puke: anyway, the smell of rum still makes me feel sick to this day, how bad is that, I drink only in moderation these days, I hate hangovers, gin squash and lemonade or beer is the safest for me.

Hey everyone a quick update on the Waikato Rally.

so far we have 34 people coming guys and girls riders and supporters.
there has been a big demand on double rooms which means you lot (and me) are bringing our partners and why not they should come along for the fun!!!
but in saying that if you want a double room get in quick as they are going quick all the Motel rooms are gone only Motel units left (not as flash guess what Ive got hehe)

A note to help me out , Please please when paying give me your KB name, your real name and your address and email this make it heaps easier for me, Im not known for my office skills and I ve already fucked up Milkys booking (all fixed now)

White Trash is kindly offered to provide us a few prizes :first: which is great thanks If anyone has some great ideas about what categories we should have for prizes please let me know (no speed or knee down ones) ie sexiest leathers or even leathers that resemble fruit as in Cajuns case (sorry Bud):Playnice:

Cajun and Firefight will be giving us all a drinking display, as you all have read they have been uping the drinking stakes to a level beyond human capabilities:puke:

KK and FF are supplying the support vehicles for free!! they both want the petrol money to go back into the site so we can give Spankme more $$$ for the Kiwibiker which we all enjoy so much.

Remember to bring sleeping bags if your not in a motel room, singles and Motel units need a sleeping bag. you can arrange to throw it in a support vehicle

thats me, but if your wanting to come and procrastinating about it  Dont!! book now, if you cant afford it now BOOK now pay later, just get your booking in !!

Cheers and have a safe weekend riding:Punk:

Guys don't remember names, dates or phone numbers, gotta be a biological thing. They do remember sports scores, and numerical facts relating to engines etc no problem at all.

What time should riders from Wellington plan to meet everyone at Tokaanu? Can we go there before you guys get there? I mean since you've booked everyone in. I'm looking forward to those hot pools! :niceone:

Looking forward to it.

Well seeing as I would be the slooooowest of all the KB riders I'll put up a post but maybe someone else can facilitate it.

Actually I won't be able to go myself - due to budget constraints (*sigh* life of a student).

I wouldn't worry about being slow. Aff-man is coming along and somehow a bigger bike has taken its toll and has turned him into an absolute nana :blah:

Anyway, i don't think it'll be a speedfest what with many of the missus' coming along; I suspect some of us will be on our best behaviour (I will be anyway!)
although it sounds like any road misdemeanours will be replaced by bar antics!

Nah I'm not worried about being slow :) And yeah I got the impression that most of you lads would be behaving a little bit more than usual b/c of your significant other being about.

I do like the sound of 'bar antics' though! (They don't have a give me G'n'T sign). :shifty:

Thanks CK my recent decline into nana-hood has now been broadcast for all to hear. Maybe it was the bad rear suspension that was making the rear let go when coming out of corners or me becoming fully airbourne at a significant speed due to the suspension releasing after a a light dip in the road and it releasing on the way up. Or maybe it was the touring tyre on the front that does not roll and dip into corners really nice. Or the front end shaking worse then the parkinsens ward at the hospital under any sort of breaking (didn't have damper on) which didn't give me any confidence in the front end.

Or maybe i am just making excuses hahah :moon: :moon: :moon:

Hey there aff-man, I don't think any the less of you taking things cautiously whilst getting to grips with your new bike and all it's idiosincrisies, it's better taking it slow for a few weeks till you get all it's "issues" resolved, I've found with any motor vehicle we have bought second hand that you always have problems to iron out first, and that is what you are doing, you are being wise, afterall if you bin it, you'll have more stuff to fix eh!, and CK, you haven't seen "nana" till you've seen me

a few things:
rear suspension is an issue on all of them as far as i have heard - perfect for smooth track use, but bumpy roads do unsettle it, especially with the damping set too hard. In general, the suspension does have a reputation for being on the harder side.
New front tyre may well do wonders for you. The back is my worry - BT56Fss on front, D207 on rear - the rear is not confidence inspiring in the wet or when it is ridden anywhere below max temperature  might just be a bit old, but I aint replacing it until it wears out...
I never had any troubles with shaking in the front end - i have no steering damper - Your brake lever isnt pulsing at all is it? Mine was slightly, until I took the callipers off and reconditioned them... Might also be an idea to check if your discs are floating properly too. There is a way to make them if they arent, but I havent explored that yet... The only other thing I could think of is worn/incorrectly adjusted steering head bearings.

Sorry if some of that seems like an affront to your intelligence/bike maintenence skills, but I thought it was worth mentioning anyway :msn-wink:

To be yet another who hijacks this thread- going off on milkys thing... BT56 = better then D207? have to say i would not agree... correct me if im wrong but a BT56 is a crossply tyre designed a few million years ago, awesome tyre when it came out, and compared to other crossplys the only thing that beats it is the sport demon... but the D207 a much more refined radial tyre designed for 400/600's i would have thought was a good tyre? I race on D207's (or at least have raced on 2 sets) yes they were the GP rated version which heat up and go super soft fast but still i dont think the road ones would be worse then a 56 - but it could just be yours is hard and old. Fully agree with ZXR400's rear suspension! HARD AS, awesome if you ask me, just set it all to softest settings for street commuting use. Regarding the front end shake id have to ask what front tyre your running as with my D207 front on my viffer it literally shakes the whole way around Old north road when gunning it.. yet the bridgestones have a much wider contact patch when upright (less triangular) which gives it a more solid and stable feel.

WHat are you bringing to play it on? I/we could do compilations of stuff on CD maybe?
Musically I'm pretty diverse, myself: only a few things cause me actual physical pain.

well given the fact that I'll be travelling on a bike, I am rather hoping the pub will have something suited to playing cd's, I am in the process of making some compilations, just wanted to know other peoples preferences, but most of us seem to be in my age group, so we should all be fairly familiar with 60's,70,80,s and there's a few younger ones who will be probably happier with something more recent.I've consulted my kids, and they have that side of it sorted, eg given suggestions, just a matter of making sure there will be some music playing machine and some space to groove around in LOL

Don't mock, some of the most awesome rock music came out in the late 60's and early 70's, I was a kid then but still enjoyed some of the older music, in fact a lot of it is being reinvented today. So what are your preferences then, seeing as you obviously have an opinion?

if we can play mp3 cds I can bring my entire collection, from the 60s through to the early 90s (about 900 songs). If not, I might just make up a few good cds..... I like to think I've pulled the best of each decade... I also have a lot of queen :D

I would count on being able to play mp3's, So I'm just making up some normal cd's for the purpose, they need to be good dance tunes tho, cos easy listening will probably send us all to sleep after a hard days riding!! LOL, That's actually my main motive, ie staying awake and not getting too drunk, I never function well with a hangover!!

Same as Posh tourer- I've got heaps of music in mp3 (couldn't bring all my CDs from Blighty!) but reckon I could muster up some very funky dance mixes. The more choice the better, I'm reckoning- and looking forward to hearing what music other folk have, too!
If that's ok.... (good point about the easy listening; I'll omit the Neil Diamond)

this is sounding good, The more people that bring music the better, variety is the spice of life I reckon, actually a lot of the music I originally selected has now been canned after listening to it, if it doesn't make my feet twitch then it goes!!! It sounds like we have similar tastes anyway, probably due to the average age of us I spose. I don't however share your enthusiasm for Neil Diamond ( sorry) did ya know he was doing a new zealand tour sometime soon tho?
