Thanks for the helpful info with the bent forks on Crazy frog. We swapped out the bent forks and put in some 2nd hand straight ones. We got a front wheel with this, and thought the tread looked better and put this on also. Oops that was a mistake and a half!

Binned it coming home from the Waiuku ride. I had a migraine start while on the ride and decided at the Kentish pub to head home as I was feeling really grotty by that stage. Andrea, Sam and Yungatart joined me on the way home, made it all the way to Manukau heights, slowed up for a corner and did my usual lean and the bike just didn't grip - off I went crazyfrog and off went I over the raised median strip and I ended up on it (bashed my elbow - bruised but not broken).

Thanks to all my bretheren that stopped to help (Andrea, Sam, Yungatart, MSTRS, Hellraiser and Micro). Got the bike home and McJim fixed it today, he took it for a test run - which went well until turning into the drive that front tyre gave out again. Poor McJim got a crushed hand for his efforts and Crazy frog now has a dent in the tank, the gear shift end broke off (welding torch time if anyone's got one?), left mirror smashed and left front indicator was bashed.

OH BUGGER, old wheels still good so will promptly be putting that back until we can afford new rubber. At least we're alive, nothing broken and bikes can be fixed. Thank goodness for having good gear, we'd both have faired much worse otherwise.

Anyway, HAPPY NEW YEAR - hope you guys had a better start to the year than we did!

You should of got Dover to take it for a test run, he would of binned it and come back with a shiny brand new GSX-R 1000. I don't know how he does it.

Gah ... not you too McJim! That poor crazyfrog is taking a beating lately! I'm just actually glad that you're both relatively okay! :shit:

Hope everything heals up quickly and well, and back into the saddle for some safe riding - and that tyre must have been a banana peel in a previous life

Take it easy with the fun stuff eh? :innocent:

That sounds like something more than a worn tire to me ... If that happened twice on something as simple as a worn tire you're getting me worried! I'm no mechanic though, hope you two heal up soon and good luck with the repairs!

Tyre is apparently made from nylon (I'm ignorant of these things) which ain't good compared to rubber - doesn't warm up and stick to the road, acted like a wet otter in a grease pit when going slow & turning to corners when the road was damp after rain. The old tyres of similar material but at least gripped in the damp, so off to the friendly tyre shop this week for us for some new grippy tyres and new wing mirrors! Left mirrors beyond salvation after the second drop.

No worries, you would have done the same if either Andrea or I had binned it!

Bummer to hear about McJim's little mishap sounds like brand new sticky rubber is the order of the day!

Heal up fast you two!!! And thanks McJim for your awesome rides!!!

'Twas a Kings Tire tyre - and it is a piece of shit that shall be torn from the rim, quartered, burnt at the stake and buried in an unmarked grave at midnight.

I had just finished straightening out the bike from the first bin and was testing it - start of the test was dry and it was happy being thrashed through sweepers at speed. Rained a bit as I arrived home and the front wheel slipped out as I was setting up for the corner into my drive - at 10kph.

So it's not the brakes or the suspension any more - definately the front tyre that is the bastard culprit.

Sorry McJim, but that's farkin' hilarious!

Yeah, why is it that some tyre manufacturers seem to think it's smart to make up a compound with teflon in it?

Yeah - they do it to make the tyre last longer - i.e. you bin it on your first ride so the bike doesn't get ridden while you heal - hence it never fucken wears out.

I'm serious about the ritual destruction of the tyre though - it's a fucken killer and I dread to think that some other mug might someday end up with that bastard on their bike as a second hand tyre.

Yes, they are made from nylon or polyester or some such stuff. And they are VERY bad indeed in the wet.I dare not touch the front brake on Petal under any circumstances whatsoever in the wet, I would be off for certain. Fotunately when I learnt to ride bikes did not have brakes so I have never really got into the habit of using them.

They wear well, though.

They wear well, though.I'm having a good run in wet out of the v-twin things front nylon Hi-Max. Similar tread pattern to the ME55 and Lasertech tires. Maybe the extra weight helps. Keep a Bridgstone Mag Mopus in the garage as a reminder of what not to get.

Edit-No dought the odd gravel road probably tenderises the tyres a bit.
