Got one of these vests for xmas.
works bloody good, the vest has LED lights in it so makes your body mass easily seen.
lights front and back
Lights can be set to flash or stay constant and there is pleanty of adjustment with the one size fits all velcro thing, so they dont flap around when i am riding to the speed limit.................

I think you'll find they are technically illegal for use on a motorcycle, as you can't have any forward facing red lights. It's a good idea though.
I'd get myself a whole suit and be the AMAZING ILLUMINATED MAN!

That is an interesting point, for which I have often canvassed answers. The law says your VEHICLE may not have any forward facing red lights (or any blue lights). But it is silent about what the driver or rider may wear. Largely irrelevant to cages of course, and they once again have mised motorcycles in the legislative thought process.
Amber lights would be better, and induce no legal uncertainties.

...........you can dress as a christmas tree if you like, but they may just stop you to see what sort of moron you are.
 I ride around during the week of christmas with a santa suit on (size XXXL over leathers) purely for fun and the looks kiddies give you.
Almost as entertaining are the looks mr plod gives you....and the questions he asks you....pretty much exactly worded as above!

Other than that you can wear what you like with lights on it, you can dress as a christmas tree if you like, but they may just stop you to see what sort of moron you are.

I asked Higlow if the vests are ok to be used.
They have confirmed they are fine as the law states only cars motorcycles etc need to have a red light on the back, you can wear any colour LED you like as long as you wear it, as clothing is not classed as a transport device.
They tell me the Wellington Police were having a go with them also to see if they would be good for the motorcycle police.
cheers

Wonder what happens when you get stopped by a HP cop down on his quota, and he writes you a ticket sfor red lights to the front anyway? Then it's up to you to challenge the ticket......worth the hassle I wonder?

Anything that makes drivers think "what the fuchia is that?" has got to be good....
Woohoo. I'm going to get some red & blue flashers and strap them to my head. Let's go and scare some car drivers! :D

After reading about this years first M/C fatality I think something like that hooked to your brake wiring to make one mass of red as viewed from the rear would be a good safety feature for that circumstance.

Oh... I have blue LED's in my car... they dont face out the front windscreen... more across the dash... (Pretty quick n easy to flick them off tho)... Have never been told off when pulled over n left them on...
What about the LED valve caps?? I have blue ones on my bike too... Would be hard to say that they face forward?...

There's a whole radt of rules about that, you must not be able to see the blue light from ahead or behind, and from blah blah angle blah blah blah.

The ticket would be invalid, the cop would know this, and so I highly doubt it would happen anyway. If in the unlikely event of you getting a ticket for it, a simple letter to Wellington would have the ticket overturned. The law is quite clear about the lights being on the vehicle...ie not the person.
Cops are only human, even they make cock ups!

Lamps that need to comply need to comply - those that don't have to comply don't have to comply.
eg....you need a rear reflector that complies with the regulation....and then you can cover the back of your bike with as many non complying reflectors of any colour you like. And you can stick silly purple lights on your windscreen washers, they don't have any regulations to cover those....
