Bloody nice ride today, out Clevedon Rd to Clevedon, then onto Maraetai.
Saw 3 cars on the way out, and 3 more on the way home.
Where I used to brake through all corners at about 30km/h, today I was blatting through at 70-80 and utilising everything I have learned.
Bloody awesome buzz... waves from half a dozen bikes, all headed toward Omana/Howick way, including the singing CBR that I heard coming from about 2km away - hate to think what the locals thought of me coming into town at that time of day then!
I'll be doing this ride more often, it's a pant load of newbie learning fun.
Ride safe everyone, beautiful day for it.

Yup, it's a great learners ride!
You must have gotten up bloody early to get there and back already, I'm probably going to head out there myself in a few, hopefully I see some kb'ers hanging around there !

If I wasn't about to be dragged to the family cage for an expedition up the road, I'd throw a couple of cold ones in the back pack, and meet you out there.
But I am, so that idea is screwed. Might pop out this arvo though, if the weather is up for it, the cicadas tell me it should be!

It was a pretty good day for it! Beach was packed as always but the ride there and back was beautiful, suprisingly less traffic than I thought and lots of waves from bikes!

Aaaargh, so near yet so far! Was at work by 6.45am and back home in bed by 1pm. Only getting the computer cranked up now! But I did bring the bike up on the deck and cleaned it, and then sprayed it with INOX lanox something, I reckon I'll be the only person in the world to clock a Chinese GN and not have it rust away - well, that's the plan anyway.
I'm not as in love with it as GI Joe is with his hornet, but it's close...
I'm gonna have to get up earlier and check whose out and about.
Good for you Minnie, you'll be over this way in no time, we can scare all the beachgoers with our GN gang...

Am thinking seriously of going for a blat to Maraetai this Saturday (5/1/07) in the early morn - probably 8ish as I have to go to Coromandel a few hours after that.
If anyones interested in a short, 1 to 2 hour stint, feel free to let me know. We can make it a L plates ride!

down to some place starting with M that has hot springs( forgive me locals havnt been up here all that long)
That'd be Miranda and yes those are some damn nice roads! I went that way on the way to Whangamata the other week, made for a pleasant ride.

That may be too early for someone like me but godamnit I'll try haha (I somehow misplaced my L plate though *cough, splutter*), watching bikes fly by in groups of 2 - 4 made me envious :(

I went out at about 0830 this morning... glorious, absolutely nobody to bother me, and roads all to myself.
I don't know why I haven't gone out of my comfort zone sooner, I have had the wisdom of other KBers for a while now, just need to be less afraid to implement it in my riding!
As for the L plate, I have a couple of spares... :D

Woot, that was a great ride - I decided to brave the wilderness and go through Twilight Road, it wasn't as scary as my first venture through there since I knew what was coming up.. still went at a snails pace though just to be sure!
Beautiful day for riding!

I'm stoked to see you guys enjoying that ride. I took Nasty out there between xmas and noo year as I'm a Bucklands Beach kid and out there's where I used to go to crash mums car (she still can't see the funnyside of it).
We started at 0730 & did BB, Howick, Whitford, Beachlands (no cafes), Maraetai (cafe closed!), Clevedon (breakfast yay). Having too much fun so didn't go back to mum's as promised ... Kawakawa, Orere, Kaiaua (beautiful), Miranda (missed the turnoff to Mangatawhiiri), Waitakaruru, Mangatawhiri, Paparimu, Hunua, Alfredton, Brookby, Whitford BB.
I've read all about the great rides in NZ and that isn't listed as one of them ... but it is! There's some of the best scenery you could find, the roads are awesome, there's something of everything (no dirt though) and it took us the day just riding cruising, stopping, chilling.
I haven't had a better one that I can remember

If you are doing it again, Beachlands does have some options, not as scenic as Maraetai beachfront, but not bad. There's a real cafe in the main shops, the bakery does 'esspresso' and has a few tables, and if you turn off before Beachlands and head down to Pine Harbour marina, there is a cafe/restaurant/bar that overlooks the marina.

The Pine Harbour one looked really good ... just what we were looking for - but not open that early. Couldn't actually fnd the shopping centre in Beachlands so buggered off to Maraeti to find the beach cafe closed until after New Years {grrr - getting relly hungry now!}. Clevedon crossroads came through though and was a minter of a brunch with lotsa coffees.
It was all the wiatresses fault. While I was in stripping off the thermals, she told Nasty about Miranda - that did it, mum was going to have to do with out us for the rest of the day.

Well you did the right thing - Clevedon is known for their great breakfasts, lot's of Beachlands people go there especially for it.
