Hi all,
I am in urgent need of locating a voltage regulator for my RF so I dont fry any more batteries.
I have been around the bike shops and Auto Electicians with not luck.
Does anyone know where I can source one?
Cheers

Gidday, maybe try your local marine shop or aircraft engineer? They often have pretty specialised components and lots of knowledge. Have you tried overseas bike sites? All the best!

You could try www.denniskirk.com they've got a whole lotta stuff.

Tried your local bike wrecker? Probably other models that will be compatible as well.

Try here http://www.japmcdismantlers.co.nz/index.html
The have the largest Suzuki parts list I can think of.
Are you sure its the volt reg you need? Most common problem is alternator giving up and then no charge to battery.

Hi, definately regulator, Ím getting 25-30V at the battery which is why it is frying.
Had reg tested today and confirmed.

Hi
Pretty sure that virtually any three phase jap bike regulator would do.
I'll download the circuit diagram if I can find it on the net, and let you know. I'm on dial up during the holidays... so it may take a year or two...

found the manual alright, but cant download it - exceed my quota at http://www.repairmanualclub.com as download kept crashing.
Anyone wanna fax or email me the wiring diagram ?

If you want a new one, Mt Eden bring in Shindengen (used on Hondas, Ducatis etc.) and several other bike shops here get them from Eurobike. Otherwise, if it's more urgent than that, just get a tidy one from a wrecker. Any late-ish model one will do.

Self appointed KB representive for disposable motorcycles.
If it's a 'onda,...
Off topic, I know...
What's with the "disposable motorcycles" bit???!!! Surely you refer to 'zookis! Found in any good hedge or culvert!

No! Perish the thought.
Just that KB went through a "phase" when the mating ritual of zuk's and ditches was in full swing.........

Hi all,
Thanks for your replies
Got a price for one from a genuine part - $321.00 + gst ex Japan
Talked to an Auto Sparkie and came up with a suitable replacement for $36.00.
Uses a standard Bosch regulator mounted remotely with fly leads into generator.

Hope its a quote not an estimate !. I think the 900 has a 3 phase alternator with external rectifier/regulator NOT a Generator.. good luck.!

Isn't it the same one as one the GSXR1100? That would be easier to find.

Well got it all back together and seems to be running fine. With high revs voltage only goes as high as 14.5V so all good.
Full test will be once a new battery is installed and bike taken on a decent run.
If anyone encounters a similar problem give me a yell.
Cheers all.

Well well well,
I have managed to fix the voltage regulation problem but now the rev counter wont read above 500rpm.
Any ideas?
Hopefully its not the ignitor unit as they are around $US400.:gob:
Will keep you posted.

Hi all
Well I now have everything going on the bike. :scooter:
Found out the problem with the rev counter was a cooked resistor. Replaced this and all is fine.
I now have intimate knowledge of most of the electrical system on an RF.
For those that are not aware, if your volage regulator craps it self it can casue quite a bit of damage to other electrical components due to overvoltage.

A bike shop can source you an aftermarket one from 2 Wheel Wholesale. We put one in an RF900 just last month. If you're mechanically minded you can install it yourself as it's inside the alternator. Price .... somewhere around $150 (that's a guess not a quote).

Hey there..
Where did you send your rev counter to get fixed???
I had a major electrical meltdown a year ago.. shit the CDI unit, regulator, battery, temp gague, petrol gague & rev counter.. all the bulbs etc. Cost me ferkin $900 to get her back on the road, with 2nd hand bits! & all the dials still haven't been fixed yet either!
Seems it is quite a well known problem with the gsxf's.. over charging.

Suzukis from the days of the GS series have been renowned for crap charging systems. The GS Resources site has a number of pages devoted to fault finding and repairing http://www.thegsresources.com/garage/gs_statorfacts.htm

I am lucky enought to have an electrical trade so fixed all the problems myself wih a little help from my friendly local auto sparkie
With most gagues it is the diodes inside then that die. Once you manage to pry the gagues open and find the stuffed one, replace it they seem to go again.
Mine did have an IC it it so I guess the newer bikes will be the same.
