I'd be in for my first ride out to Whangamomona.
But do they have a petrol station out there? or anywhere along that rd to Stratford? Only having a 10 liter tank on the KR150 might be a worry. (Note to self: pack a rope).
Could be a Ingelwood about 10:45 if thats the plan.
Might have to make a slow group of one and ride at my own pace :scooter:

Nope! Toko from memory is the last place for gas on the way in from Stratford. Its a gasoline Alley place I recall. Have never used it and I would guess the hours are fairly limited. Im sure Sensei will have better info for ya

I understand Stratford to Taumaranui is 155ks. Will the KR make that distance? Alternatively you could take a container (poss. in back pack) with an extra couple of litres.

While you guys are out riding, maybe some kind soul could have a look and advise whether the Matau-Pohokura stretch is fully sealed. Thank you.

On SH3 it would make that distance, but with the throttle on/off corners and hills on 43, it might not. I have also just re jetted the carb so am unsure what affect that will have on mileage.
I will ride to 'Whanga', and then come back to NP from there. Reading what Nadroj was saying, it seems Stratford to 'Whanga' is about an hours ride. So 2 hours to get back. The KR would normally handle that alright. But with the extra wrist twisting, I might be running on fumes before I hit Stratford again. :(
But who wants to carry fuel on their back?! Just what you need to turn a simple low slide into a instant barbecue.
O well, will be a nice day for a Walk, if it comes to that.

went along sh43 yesterday. watch out for:

slips, rocks were strewn over the road in various places from gravel-taumaranui.

loose sheep all over the place, some of the fences were damaged.

the birds seem a bit suicidal down there, likewise the rabbits.

campervans on the wrong side of the road.

Take some serious friction to do that!:bleh:

Besides, walking sucks:oi-grr:

Will have my packrack on and will have space for a small container, so long as you have a decent plastic bag to put it into, don't need my kit smelling of fuel!

What a Great ride!
The 150 got from Stratford to Whanga and back to Ingelwood on 9.5L of gas.
145 Km dispite the harsh use of throttle (and gearbox) in those hilly corners.
That means next time I can make an even deeper exploration of 'The Forgotten Highway'.
Nice to meet a few new faces. Hope everyone got home safe.
Racey.

Well may be called Forgotten Highway but once you do a ride like the one today you'll never forget it . Meet the crew as I was just coming up to the 8 Mile turn off this mornning at 9am so turned round & followed them to PioPio where we stopped for a cuppa / feed & smoke then off on our journey towards New Plymouth with the roads in clean condition it was all good , gassed up at Awakino then on to Urenui then Inglewood to gas up again & meet the other Naki guys . Down to Stratford & top the bikes up for the trip into Whanga . The road was in great shape as it wasn't to hot & all enjoyed the twistys by the sounds of it . Parked up at the Whanga pub for lunch & a Beer / Rum / Jeam beam . meet some sheep & a dude that made the brakes on Nadroj / Kev's Busha was very Kool but will let Kev post abit about that with a pic of him . As with all good things it had to end & all said their goodbyes etc & we headed off our seperate ways . Will no doubt see some of you guys/ gals again for another Cruz . Thanks all that made the effort today & for making it a sweet ride . Oh yea a couple of Pics LOL

Thanks for showing us around your backyard Sensei, you really need to do something about those homeless 'Vagrants' though, yeh I know they have wooly coats but hell you can't leave them to wonder around on the streets though! :dodge:

I'll definately make a return trip, SH43 must be one of the best roads I've ever ridden, you just gotta love those corners, although I think my eyes filled my visor when I first came across that 15km/h corner and then there were a few more of them Yeeeeh Haaa!

P.S. thanks to everyone that rocked-up you guys and gals made the trip worthwhile:rockon:

1. Sitting at the Whaga pub when we were approached & asked who rides the Busa. Turned out the man has a busa himself modded with 999Ducati front, K5 swingarm together shortening the wheelbase 150mm, but what was amazing was he produced his business card which showed his company Braking Italia (braking.com) manufacture the wave rotors I am running.
2. Whanga Road Lice
3. Naki built vehicle drove 100km of backroads to get to Whanga. Runs 350 Chev & auto to Commodore independant rear.
4. Goblin's friend 'The First Lady' of Whanga -(Mert the presidents wife), made herself known with wine in hand (she had had a few & not over the road at the pub) providing a few local colorfull stories. I'm sure Goblin will add to this.
A good ride in good company Cheers folks

Just received an e-mail from Bruno Greppi (owner of Braking Italia) with pics of his modded Busa.
