Hey all I'm picking up my new bike tomorrow :D Traveling down tomorrow morning to Picton then catching the ferry to Straight Jacket's home (she's kindly let me stay the night... thanks Hels  )

Then on Sunday morning I will be riding from Wellington to Taupo if any one would like to join for part/ all of the way. I'll be starting on HW 1 then 57, then 2 up to Hastings. Then just after Napier I'll be taking HW 5 to Taupo.

There is no rush to get back to Taupo so I will be traveling at about 100Kph... newbies who don't do the 70K law are welcome

If you would like to come please PM me before tonight,

Jas

Hey Meekey, go SH2 all the way. Much quicker with less faffing about and less traffic too.

How's the weather gunna be on that hill. Out-of-town newbies don't like it, you know.

Well SH1 (Wellington Motorway), SH57 (too much freaking traffic), then SH2 is just a needless detour when you can go SH1, SH2.

Isn't it?

It takes about 45 mins to an hour off the whole trip and the Rimutakas are only shit when the weather in the whole region is shit. It's just 13 kms of a road you have to be careful on. I'd consider riding in heavy rural traffic (it always is on 57 at this time of year) to be more dangerous than 13km of twisties.

Yes, less traffic and a more direct route. I would be happy to ride over the Rimutakas with you.
