View Full Version : Is this normal?

Hi all ye knowledgable ones out there.... and don't worry the thread title doesn't mean this will be a question about girls :innocent:

I've never owned a vehicle from new before so please excuse my question.

Today I have just picked my bike up from its first 1000km service and riding it back fromAMPS it feels and rides like a totally different bike. It seems to be revving 'freer' up through the revs and seems to sound alot smoother.

It's really hard for me to explain as i'm not really knowledgable in the technical area.

Is this normal for a bike (or indeed a car) after its first service or perhaps I am just imagining things (I seem to have gotten better looking too since getting the bike back :p)

Cheers all

Quite normal. May have put synthetic oil in, adjusted everything etc......plus you'd expect a bike to run better after a service eh? Things are settling in and just keep following the running in instructions.

Enjoy.

My running in instructions for after the 1000km service basically consisted of "You can fang it now" :)

Cool............I know my SV was 1600km but pretty much after 1000km you could take it to 7000 revs which would be about 180kish..............

When I run in new bikes I tend to give it a fang every 150km.....helps....and me too...he he

My VTR will be coming up for it's 18,000 service soon - you could come and have a ride on that to see what it will feel like 3 years later.

The chain and sprockets are starting to suffer a bit. Should be smoother once they're replaced (won't let you near it while it's dodgy)

Not that unusual, when the bikes are assembled every thing is all new, but not nessasarly seated/assembled perfectly. after some time on the road, the vibrations and movements settle all the parts in to place properly, then the first service everything should be checked, and adjusted which then sets them back to spec (at least in the ideal world), little things like bolts needing to be tightened a little more, all the sharp edges on newly machined parts coming off, then the fresh new oil cleaning all this out. Manufacturing is by no means perfect, I have found over the years that different identical vehicles can be very different to drive depending on how well they have been looked after from new (been driving company vehicles)

keep looking after the bike and it should last for years...

Totally normal, bike and the above banter. I'll probably now receive a wedgie from my piers for that comment. Just as long as I don't get it while I'm strutting round in my undies.
