Interesting cage number plate

Was at work a week or two ago and this guy rocks up in XR6/8 or whatever. Typical average bloke you would expect driving something like this. Anyway as I was serving him I noticed his personlised number plate was

I1I11I(ie capital I's and number 1's)

Curiously I enquired about it and he told me that speed camera's can't tell the difference between 1's and I's. Very interesting.

Got me thinking what a bloody good idea, would surely cause a headache for the feds. I'm not thinking about doing a similiar thing for my bike, but thought people might be interested anyway.

I thought the photo's got sorted by hand in the end anyhow, and the quality of the photos is good enough to see the difference.

i saw a ferrari in auckland with a personal plate that was something along the lines of NMMNNM...took me a while to figure it out, as he got further away it just looked like a scribble.

Going by your theory they would not be able to issue any plates with the letter I or the number one. As they could be confused, no matter how many or how few there were. A huge percentage of plates have either a one or I in them. I dont think Mr XR6s' theory stacks up, but let him keep dreaming.
Only thinig it is good for is confusing other motorists who want to *555 you.
dont they do somehting with the Os and Qs? im trying to think when i saw an O on a normal plate or mabye they dont do Os and Qs on the same plate?

i know they "filter" out certain words (not that they didnt miss any)

i like the *555 theory though - must be the only down side of a personalised plate

Group of cage drivers down here had a few variations of '11I1I1' etc. Cops soon worked out who they were. The plates then became a ticket for trouble. You don't see them around here no more...

OAB speaks true - a lot were people that kinda thought they were smart and a cut above the rest but boy, you have no idea how looooong it can take to check those numbers when you stop them for a random breath and licence check etc.

Yeah, I've seen a few of those plates too.

One owner said it was for when people tryed to report his plate for bad driving, they couldn't remember it long enough to write it down. Real cool man, real cool.

I remember when they did the testing for the cameras at Ohakea. The plates were easily discernable - you could tell the difference bewteen numbers & letters. They got the cars (a Porche, Ferrari and something else from memory) going pretty damn quick down the runway.

It's a trivial manner to bring up all of those combinations from the database, and to limit the list by make/model/colour. He is another fool kidding himself.

My uncle's got a plate like that on his new fireblade in Tauranga. I had a pretty hard time reading it when I was standing right behind it!

Yeah only 64 variants of 1I1I1I plus the various shorter versions makes a total of 126 plates (can you have single digit plates?)

There is at least one in Canty, saw one just two days back, could be incomer though.

Some might think they'd all be in Canterbury.
