i'm heading down to taupo on wednesday afternoon, leaving the papakura service centre about 4pm, staying overnight in taupo for the track day on thursday. anyone keen to ride along?

i plan to stay in taupo on thursday night too, and possibly head down to mansfield on friday for the track day there on saturday depending on interest.

i have set this up as a calendar event too, as i'm not sure whether i should be posting here or there???

If youre keen to try a different route than SH1 try the Kihikihi-Mangakino road (Waipapa dam) or.....the Te Kuiti-Mangakino road is pretty cool (SH30), and then down through Mokai (map (http://maps.google.com/maps?f=q&hl=en&q=te+kuiti+new+zealand&ie=UTF8&z=10&ll=-38.470794,175.56839&spn=0.496735,1.326599&om=1&iwloc=addr)).

Just did these roads in the last few days so am a bit enthusiastic.

Ride these roads all the time (did highway 30 yesterday on the way to 'Naki and the magical 43) they're all in pretty good condition at the moment apart from a couple of small patches; Near the Mangakino end of 30 through the tight section in forest - watch if its wet, there's virtually no chip left on the tar for about half a k or so, makes it sliiiipery. Other than that it's sweet.

that's my local stomping ground for rock climbing, i usually go through kihikihi through the castlerock at wharepapa south and hook a left down to mangakino, it's a sweet trip!

I used to rock climb but never made it up that far (got to Wanaka though). Now when I ride through that region Im struggling to keep my eyes on the road!...I confused riding mates by constantly pointing all over the place lol.
