Writing this as adrenalins wearing off, heads getting a bit woozy and i'm getting sorer, but hey.
Roundabout of swanson, don buck and universal this morning... same roundabout i've done daily since riding... either back came round or i'd a bit too much lean for my speed... anyway, lowsided... i remember a good knock on the head (god bless helmets!) and an 'aw f#@k' as i went down...
People helped.. was nice... was i guess running on adrenaline... lady told me about my knee but it registered a few minutes later sitting on the roadside. Wore thru the cordura but lucky the armour was underneath. Visor half came off an it plus helmet are scratched.
Thankfully my leg bore the brunt of road sliding damage, only scratch i saw on bike is exhaust and barend.. broke rear brake pedall off. Didnt wanna start but got it eventually an rode to friends house. Was gona be a good day tooo... she'd packed me a lunch.
My left wrists getting damn sore (rights fine, typing woth that) so dunno wtf i hurt that one. Heads getting bad sitting here... all in all not a bad first bin. I walked away, literallly laughing all the way to mates house... she thought i was weird.. hey it's somethhing of a rite of passage an now its done. Ill proof read this later.. gonsa ly down..

A couple of Panadol and some ice for the sore bits, take it easy for the rest of the day, then get about sorting the damage. Do you have contents insurance? you should be able to replace all the gear damaged by making a claim. Glad to hear you are ok!
Take care mate

Hope your feeling better soon!
Make sure you get yourself checked out and an ACC number just incase you need physio etc.
Sounds like you had quite a scare and an ouch, thank goodness for good gears. Hope you & your bike are back up and riding again soon.
I binned last Sunday on a corner and can say it's not a nice experience sliding along the ground. At least you didn't end up under a car or truck mate - for these small mercy's we must be thankful!
Put icepacks on your doofs and arnica cream from the pharmacy/health shops will help the bruising (which I'm sure you'll have plenty of).
Take care!

Round abouts are not a good place to be going fast or even moderate lean angles, cos of the oil, diesel and crap on them. I almost binned on the ANTNR ride b4 christmas do the same thing.

Owwee ow ow  Glad to hear you are okay (relatively) and able to type such a long post! Yep, Rest, ice, compression and elevation is needed to maximise the healing period - sorry to hear about the bin, good to hear that you are reflecting on the experience to work out what went wrong.
Thank gosh you were wearing the right gears, did its job and I guess you'll be shopping for a new lid? Take some piccies of the damage and the roundabout when you can!
And remember, painkillers are your friend :sunny:

Glad to hear you and your bike are ok
Just incase you go riding after you've takin pain killers (depending on what type you use) be careful as I found that painkillers would sometimes slow down my reaction time... might just be me though or have other people had this?

Rest up man! Get yourself checked out.
Lucky it wasn't worse, gear and bikes can be replaced/repaired..people can't!

Just got back from the doctors at my parents insistance.. felt silly walking in there.
As expected nothing seriously wrong, just a good knock to the noggin and got a slip showing signs to be wary of for 48hrs or something... and a good sprain on the wrist (still not sure how that happened).
All I can say is i'm glad i got the photos of my bike i wanted done yesterday... (profile + gallery)

If you have any bruising get some Arnica gel on it. The wife gave me some for my legs (both hit the handle bars as I did a superman impression over a car bonet) after my off. Worked a treat.
Glad you and you bike are both ok. When I got my first bike I intentioned rode it around the back yard in ever decreasing circles until I finally dropped it on the grass. Hoped that getting my first "off" out of the way would save me from future problems... hehe
Didn't work.
Glad you and the bike got away relatively unscathed. Hopefully over the next few days you'll get some clues from replaying the incident as to what went wrong. It's always nice when we can learn something from our offs. Helps increase our chances of not experiencing another.

Sorry to hear about the bin mate, glad to hear you and bike are not too badly beat up.
Sounds much like my crash, low sided at about 50km/h and only damage was a scratched up muffler, bar end and broken rear brake pedal. Bike was a bitch to get started intially too, plus it somehow blew a fuse and my tacho and signals weren't working.
Hopefully you can figure out what the cause was to avoid a repeat. I hit a bump on the apex of the corner which the exhaust join bottomed out on and spat the bike out from under me. Have been a bit wary of that since and I know keep a closer eye on road surfaces, especially those i'm unfamiliar with.
Take it easy

Easy on dude thats my girlfriend lol...bare inmind she's had 2 kids ;)
Anyway, $40 to weld my footbrake together... $5.45 for some new bolts, and $8 sandpaper to sand the exhaust smooth again. Not too bad.. hopefully nothing shows up in some more riding.
Rode to my sisters house (scenic drive) to get my allen keys so that was my 'back on the horse' ride... have to say, I wasn't so much nervous as 'feeling' everything the bikes doing alot more then before.
Don't know if I want to continue using that helmet though, it was quite a knock on it. Pants got a whole right through so no longer waterproof.. same with jacket.

Toss that helmet in the rubbish RIGHT NOW!!! Once it has hit the road with any force, it could be weakened internally and the damage not visible to the eye.:shit:
Check your insurance, as it should cover a replacement, same for your jacket and pants.

..........Anyway, $40 to weld my footbrake together...
Not sure on this, but I think it may have to be done by a certified welder or replaced completely to be legal......

The jacket will probably be fine....the pants - well, until you decide what to do they are far far better than no pants, but consider that the place they wore through is the place that obviously hits the ground hard in a lowside on that side. I'd replace them if it was me, but would probably have to save some $$$ for a few weeks. The helmet - BIN IT NOW and do not ride anywhere until you get a new one. BIN IT NOW. please.
Murphy's law plus a suspect helmet......not a good combo.
I have a spare you can borrow for a few weeks if the budget is too tight - just PM me.

Technically, absurdly, yes. if welded, not only does it need to be done by a certified tradesman, but it will need small volume vehicle certification for the repair!
So obviously, once it's done, file and sand the weld smooth and paint the pedal over with a bit of alloy paint so the weld doesn't show. Ask me no questions, I'll tell you no lies.

I got it done at an engineering company in auckland, should i ask for a certificate or would that be enough?

No harm in asking.

The closest thing to an explaination i've got so far is :
Given I go round there everyday it's basically habitual, now the day before I got new brakepads and adjusted the front brake handle, now when I brake it's actually enough to compress the front shocks (never did before... not much anyway, scarey thought) so I'm guessing I slowed far quicker then usual and when I leaned in I wasn't carrying my usual speed.... over I went.

Yep, roundabouts... Almost binned it before xmas on the roundabout at the Albany north motorway exit. Went through a bit too fast (apparently) and the front tucked in hard. It gave me just enough time to think "oh fuck, not again", but then I picked it up and rode on, almost shat myself though. I'm not sure how I pick up a lost front, its something I learned from dirtbike riding and its a reaction thing, but thats the first time I've done it on the road.
Good deal you came out of yours ok Toy. After my first bin just puttering through town leaving work I'm much more aware of the slippy road conditions in urbia/suburbia especially on cold tyres. The second was in the rain, braking in a straight line. I'm still not sure how that one happened, more crap on the road or maybe a big white arrow painted on the roadway. That one happened happened so quick my head was bouncing off the tarseal before I even knew what was happening. I think the lesson is basically to go slow an easy in dodgy conditions and the roads in town are dodgy all the time.
