Where is good to get tyres (Hamilton)

Where is a good place to get bike tyres in Hamilton?

And what is a good brand to get? Or is there just any to stay away from?

Also, they guy at the tyre place told me that I must have the same brand as I have on the front...truth or sales pitch?

Road and Sport in Hamilton give great service, I always use them despite having a Honda. Funnily enough, I contacted them today about some new rubber for mine. (Ahem, $550 fittedfor the pair, but yours should be a lot cheaper). Any of the major brands should be fine for yours.

Slightly off topic but since you mentioned it, I won't be taking my bike back to Boyds Honda in Hamilton...their attitude had something to be desired as I got the impression that I was putting them out by wanting my bike serviced and then they gave me a list of stuff that they said needed fixing too but when I had another mechanic look at the list he laughed at most of it and asked what they were taking when they made it. Plus they missed that my rear brakes were due to have the pads replaced.

I've found the opposite
At Boyds I always deal with John or sometimes Aaron in parts or Linden/Nathan in the workshop as well as Nicky in service. Everyone else is a bit suss....
Boyds always looked after me when first starting out, giving me an account to pay stuff off etc.
Road & Sport I never really got good service from the parts people.
Peter in service is a good reliable chap though.
Lester in sales is a good bloke too.
And Kim in admin is very pretty......;)

I've also found Boyds good both in the workshop and the parts desk but when I wandered in looking for some riding gear, I was ignored on both occasions so take my business next door.

yep same thing happened to me so i went accros the road and spent $1000, i was parked outside boyd and got some nasty looks carring all my gear from the competitor, f#ck them i say

I must have caught them on a bad day then...here's what the summary of what they said and the other mechanic said tho :

They're list included :

Bent forks, need straighting (his comment, possible but unlikely, can't see anything wrong)

Left arm pitted, needs fixed or replaced (His comment, it's about 4 inches above the maximum travel of the suspension and tiny so no point in doing that)

Hand grips worn (His comment, WTF?)

Steering bearings worn, need replacing (His comment, no chance everything tests fine. I'd like to know how they worked that one out!)

Back tyre worn, needs replacing (His comment, fair dues...it's getting close)

And after all that they missed that the marker for the rear brakes was bang on needing replacing and they didn't mention it.

I'd have to say go with Boyd Honda... I've always found Boyd have better prices, and they seem to be a much friendlier crowd

I was in at Boyds a few weeks ago checking out tyres...the salesman came up for a talk,no pressure just seeing where I was at.He said he could sharpen those prices for me too - shit I said,they are cheaper than when I bought the same tyres 8 years ago! I'll be going back when I want some tyres that's for sure.

Friend of mine recently bought a VFR 750 off TradeMe so required some riding kit, it being many years since he sold his CBX. He stopped off at Boyd Honda and was impressed with both the service and the prices.
