View Full Version : Welly bikers' support for gear show?

Colapop
8th January 2007, 20:44
I'm trying to gauge the support or interest for a mini-show of some gear to be held in Wellington. No, not a major event. The idea is that Quasimoto leathers would be in town and have some gear on display so people can get up close and personal for themselves. Leathers, synthetics, boots, protective gear. To add some depth to that, WMCC would bring along some helmets and a couple of demo bikes. That's all the people I've spoken so far.

As I said not a big bike/gear/huge commercial thing, just a small sorta thing so KBers (mainly) can have a looky at some stuff. I'm open to suggestions and thoughts. This is by no means meant to cut anybody out so if you'd like to be involved then PM me. Also by keeping it relatively small then no-ne gets their toes stood on. The thing is that the more that get involved the bigger the event would have to be and that would mean all sorts of shit I don't wanna know about - event location, money, stalls etc...

Vote above and we can all see how much interest (or lack of it) there'd be.

::edit:: Of course peeps from elsewhere would be welcome...

Somehow I think this is a nefarious scheme by Colapop to get more of his Samoan Viking mitts on everyone in range (and hes got long arms...the scuffing on his knuckles prove it!)

On ya Cola, doing your bit for biker safety and supporting kiwi engimanuity!

Gonna do my best to get there... I've been looking at Quasi one piece leathers for a while now. Be good to see them up close like.

Do you have to come to the BBQ Col? It'd be nice for those of us that suffer you all the time to have one without you. Just do a good job of organising everything and we'll be sweet. Cheers mate.

For the sake of the hosts, of the BBQ on the 27th, the date may be different to sels1 BBQ. They'd prefer not to have a huge number of people hooning up and down on demo bikes, a semi 'commercial' event which is fair enough.

It's still a goer I'm just trying to put a guage on numbers and other bits and pieces. If the guys are going to make the effort of getting stock there (wherever it may be) then I'd like to see some result for them.

9th January 2007, 06:16
Sounds great - I am pretty ignorant about gear even though I have all the basics, I really need some new stuff. It would be good to be around a whole lot of experienced riders who I feel aren't trying to sell me the most expensive brand & can give me good practical advice. I'd be keen as a keen thing!

And - I'll be able to "encourage" my partner to come along and get some gear so he can start riding :)

Yeah, I'd be in. Try and make it a non-custody weekend and its even more likely.

Sounds like just the ticket; I've been eyeing up Quasi's gear online and am really curious to see what they're like in the flesh.
No bike yet since I just got back, but there's always...

Hopefully I'll be there - good to see the plan to separate it from the xmas BBQ.

This may be a bad idea......but what about seeing if some country pub will close off their courtyard or similar?....even if they won't......we could gather there and try stuff on....sift around and dribble over nice bikes....talk shit.....oh hang on...sounds like every other day at work.

Was thinking about Martinborough..? But distance / ac coma dation might an issue for some. What's up the coast - a couple of camps (christian I think - no booze) and a pub at Waikanae on the main road...?? Thought of Paekakariki but now there's no pub there and it's in the middle of dirty shitty roadworks.

There is camp Ngati Awa (sp) inland from Waikanae BUT it is NOT a place to try out bikes for the slightly less than confident on someone elses very expensive motorcycle. Up side is accomodation and it's away from the maddening crowd. Downside is you have to carry everything in and do all your own catering etc which means someone has to work their arse off.

There is the park up from ashurst. Again, self catering but has better places for road testing.

The Wellington Classic Club are organising a Classic Bike show early this year. Could be a goer?

If Martinborough. The Cafe on the way in from Featherston has the big barn area out the back they hold the sunday market in. It's pretty good as it has catering (the cafe), various accom options (none cheap), bars and a huge covered area if the weather is less than perfect.

I can ask Vicki about other venues Kapiti north as she used to sell into the cafe's etc. I'd say avoid a shw1 place which rather limits the options.

absolute steak is pub at waikanae .. good parking .. two exits out on the road .. great outdoors area with two or so bars ... pretty good sized car park

you also have tatum park .. quite a large grassy area . only prob is leads directly out on state highway 1 ..

is the cafe/pub still at Himitangi ? great area there .. road is just off state highway 1 but again still a fairly main road

davereid
16th January 2007, 19:36
Yeah, the pub is still going at Himitangi, called Sparkys now. Also near to Tatum park is The Winemakers Daughter, they will open special for groups, and you can scoot off down TeHoro Beach Rd to test stuff. Food at Winemakers is yum.

Hopefully about mid Feb.

I might put a new poll up... Matrybro' or Wakanaka?

I like steak and beer.. I don't mind doing a bit of hump work to cart shit (Hilux + towbar) I have a BBQ and don't mind firing that puppy up. I'm taking responsibility for getting this thing going so I don't mind doing some hard yards (done something similar before) A bit of advice is always welcome though.

absolute steak have their own bbq ... a blardy big one .. dunno that other venues would be keen for you to organise bbq as well .. after all draw card would be ppl buying sum food there ;)

winemakers daughter is in middle of the construction zone down that way at present ..

just thought for a large area himitangi would be perfect (play area if kiddies are being dragged along) better road for a bit of a blat ..can cross state highway 1 & head out towards himitangi beach ....

Ummm not sure on BBQ .. it used to .. but can always do a reccy to check it out .. .. definate piss if is a pub .... but nah on accomodation .. plenty of room for a tent ..

however Tatum has accomodation or heaps of room for tenting .. a number of biking rallies have been held there over the yrs .. bring ya own piss .. & not sure on bbq .. however am sure a few of us locals can provide them ... only prob direct access to state highway 1 .. however a few quiet roads not far down the road

Yup - Thats camp Rangi Woods which is a part of the Totara park. We have held a few IMOC rallies there and it is bloody good. Excellent kitchen facilities and a range of accomodation (bring your own bedding) I did mention it earlier and you are correct - fantastic riding around the valley loop. Also a big communal hall for gear / showing stuff etc.

Part of Totara Park, Camp Rangi Woods is a large recreational area and camping ground on the bank of the Pohangina River. Facilities include a play ground, picnic areas, public toilets and accommodation and catering for large groups.

Located 15 minutes north of Raumai.
Organiser: Moira Morton
