This is a big ups to a guy from CH CH called ANDY EVAN'S
Andrew Stroud had a massive get off at around 240kph at Invercargill on the weekend in the first 600 race, a water hose let go on his bike ( It had been rubbing against his fairing) and bumped all the water onto the rear wheel and spat him off as he was braking and tipping into a corner, so the race was Red flagged.
His bike was such a mess it was impossible to repair in time for the re start, so I asked another competitor if he would consider standing down and lend Andrew his bike ( K6 GSXR Suzuki) HE DID IT:rockon:
Andy, I have no idea if you ever get on this board mate, but what you did really impressed me mate, that was brilliant sportsman ship, and if I can ever help you in anyway, please just ask

Nice stuff.
I bet Stroud won the race too, even on a borrowed bike...
do any of you guys have an SRAD750 front wheel for Frosty?

If I have it right Shaun also gave up his ride so Andrew could compete. Another generous gesture by you Shaun - must be something in the southern beer !!

Good on ya Andy,
And good on you Shaun,
thats the good attitude we need at racing thats really nice to lend your top race bike out to someone else so they can race and sacrifice yourself.
Good onya
Those men deserve a DB:yes:
Shaun
9th January 2007, 10:13
Yea I did, but Stroudie is a really good mate, like a brother to me! and Andy did not really even know him

Top man Andy. That's what motorcycling's about.
Riding is part of it (a big part of course) but there is sooooooooo much more. Big ups to you too Shaun.
Bro or no bro, you did the decent thing, as you would. I know I don't need to pat you on the back for it, which is the very reason I'm doing it. God that sounds condescending - not meant that way at all.

Andrew was fine, the only rider I know that can body surf across a track at over 200KPH and laugh it off
Ivan
9th January 2007, 14:58
Thats good,
200k's is to scary to body surf across a track.
That man also deserves a DB

NO---I wont let this one go -folks a little detail Shaun left out here --ANOTHER competator who was racing that day was basically first on the scene, he organised the bike so that Andrew could carry on racing and then proceeded to spend the next two hours stripping parts off his own racebike in order for Andrew to carry on racing. Mate, if for no other reason than that I owe you a beer! That is true kiwi sportsman ship at its best, thanks you Shaun, that was an amazing thing to watch, for those of you that haven't figured it out it was Shaun Harris who stripped his bike down that day

Thanks for the inside story Frosty.
It was an awesome enough sight to watch Andrew Stroud kicking arse on a borrowed bike(!!). To find out now what went on to get him back on his own ride for the next race is deeply impressive and truly shows the camaraderie of bike racers - even at a top level competion.
Well done all those racers!:sunny:

:gob:
Is he accelerating so hard that it's lifting the front wheel, or is the airspace between the front wheel and ground because of a bump or something?

all i can say is that guy is a legend (don;t understand him tho, as i would have raced my own bike)
however a question,
Andrew caused the red flag, why is he allowed to start the restart?

Road racing rules currently allow the rider causing the drama to restart, and yes Andy Evans is a legend

well done to both of you, shawns a lateral thinker, great under pressure, saw him working away on strouds bike, putting wheels on on dummy grid, latter getting bits of his own so his mate could have another ride, and andy for giving his bike away for one race and forgoing some national points, hope suzuki nz look after you both ....
sam smith was flying, with robert taylors help.....
exciting superbike action also....... timaru next.......go kiwi's.....and thanks aussies for the great racing.........

Some might say this generosity was motivated by the kudos gained by helping a high profile rider. This is not the case, I know both Andy and Shaun and can assure you they help everyone they can in the sport, including the strugglers and wannabes. For their their unselfish acts, sometimes they get
thanked, sadly, sometimes not. I hope all people in the sport realise the work of these two guys is way too rare. Lets make sure they're appreciated so that others become like this too.
From me (a struggler and wannabe) and my kids (much better prospects)
a big thanks to Shaun and Andy for your help over the years

From me (a struggler and wannabe) and my kids (much better prospects)Ohh come on Pete... what you are doing for the sport in the South Island is amazing... without people like you, there would be much less fresh blood coming into the sport... so good on you mate!
Re the thread topic - we have spoken about it a little, and I reckon what Andy did is amazing... pretty damn special actually!

Not sure I agree with this. I have been amazed at the number of people willing to help and support (including Shaun whose help I have recieved a couple of times - but he is just one of many for me...)

After checking mylaps last week I was wondering what happened to the esteemed Mr Harris.......
Funny, I have been working away on some of the long overdue house reno's, taking my mind off the fact I should have been DownSouth racing (the bike decided I was going to embarrass it with my "frog in a sock" riding "style" and promptly dropped a valve). Anyway, I had an ol' Britten tape plugged in the VCR (it's just like a DVD only not so flat...or round, for you younger types) showing a very fresh faced young Master Stroud. All these years later and he's still kickin' arse....thanks to people like Shaun and Andy Evans.
Top effort fella's!

top bloke..
I'll second that. Would it be this (http://www.motorcyclingnz.co.nz/download/2006_Road_Race_Champs_Results_125ccGP.pdf) Andy Evans?
If my memory works (sometimes doesn't), then Andy Evans sold me a barely used RS125 front slick for silly money.
