View Full Version : What tyres do you use?

Originally saw this poll on the Eastern Creek Raceway website. The choice/brands they had were limited. So, what tyres do you use? Of course, a GS500(f) ships with Bridgestone Battlax BT-45's.

EDIT: Dammit! Spelt Metzeler wrong!

Guess you meant Pirelli :nono:

I'm currently 2500 miles into a set of BT020's have used BT56's and 58's, Pirelli corsa and supercorsa, and avon azuro.

Like the bridgestones in wet shitty commuting conditions, like the avons in the dry, like the pirellis on the racetrack.

Metzeler, Cheng Shin, Shinko, Bridgestones(don't normally use them though but one came up cheap).

You need to separate Avon from other, or that particular entry is pointless.

Even other is pointless.

True that, but I try to produce only one unpleasant statement per sentence.

Metzeler Z6 Roadtecs. Great tyres on days like today.

BT 45's on the GS. A good all round tyre. Might try some Pirellis next.

Avon Azaro here, good positive tyre but I tend to ride on fine days. Metzeler Z6 have also been recommended for my bike and apparently have a superior wet weather performance, so will give them a try next. Nothing wrong with the Avon will just try the Z6 for scientific purposes...as you do

I love polls where "other" is up there with the leaders. We can only guess at how many are Avon and how many are WhaunPoon Superb Radials.

I use black ones...

I am currently in "experiment" mode. The Conti Road Attacks I am currently running are, like the Battlax 020s they replaced, competent but uninspiring. If Avon's New Zealand distributor receives some in time, my next change (in about a couple of weeks) will be to the new Avon Storms. Otherwise I will revert to the Metzeler Roadtec Z6 that I ran as my tyre of choice on my last two bikes (an ST1300 and a ZRX1200R), but try the new Avons at the next change. The Roadtec Z6s are a fantastic tyre and hard to fault, apart from a tendency of the rears to square-off over the last half of their life. The Conti Road Attack rear is to be commended on this score, just starting to develop a flat spot after nearly 9,000km.

The Storms are in the country. I'm having mine fitted in 2 weeks in Hamilton. Price from Road and Sport Suzuki for my size is $550 fitted and balanced.

On my second set of Avon Vipers. Well second rear, waiting for the front to turn up. Best tyre for me and my bike in that they tour, scratch, and commute equally well. The best thing about them is I was down to the wear bumps on the rear and they hadn't appreciably squared off.

Avon viper on the front

Bridgestone something on the back

About 4 years since I have had a matching set......

BT45's on my Bandit, haven't had any problems with them

Have been using Pilot Powers on the Bandit , but have just done a month on Power Race . Very impressive tyres. Quick warm up compared to the 209 gp 's I tried ( the dunslops I never really felt happy with unless they were hot , which took longer). But if you aren't doing any track days or scatching around ,you know, normal stuff ! The Pilot Powers are my favorites. Gaz.

Very interesting Hitcher, not too sure if I am that interested in them if that is the case. Question (s) though, how many Ks would you expect before this happens and could this be a feature if the majority of my riding is through the twisties?

Blackbird, would be very interested in your feedback on the Avons once you have given them a crack around the south Island

Avons. Viper on the front and Azarro on the rear. Just gotta watch the Azarro a bit on a slippery road but other than that they do well. Im on my second Azarro (on a Hayabusa) and they seem to do around 6000 kays.

On both the ST and ZRX I was getting about 10-12,000km off a Z6 rear, with the squaring-off starting from about 6,000km.

Thanks Hitcher that doesn't sound too bad especially as the ZRX would probably punch them out at around the same rate as the X11. I am looking to get around 8K from the Azaro

Pirelli Sport Demons on the Spada. I commute, go for blats and do trackdays, so needed something of the sport type, but not too sticky as my commute would eat them. Have clocked up 11,000k's or so and the rear is about to be replaced - too many straight lines (the sides are sweet, but the centre is flat).

I have had absolutely no problems with them, and have ridden them on the absolute edge of the tyre on a few occasions. Won't be changing, they're the perfect tyre for me and my bike.

This is my first poll. It was something like 3am when i posted it, hence the mistakes. Was surprised I couldn't edit/correct the mistakes. The Eastern Creek poll just had Michelin, Pirelli, Dunlop, Bridgetone & "Other".

There's going to be lots of people running "Avon or Other".
I'm running Other, as in Stallion, colour is traditional Black.
