Hi everyone

It's great to be back in the NZ motorcycling community!! Before university I owned a GSXR250 which seemed to break down as often as it ran...however I managed to ride up and down the country a few times, which was awesome fun and I can still remember every trip :) tragically I had to sell to help pay fees. Finally now I've the chance to own a bike again :D

My father Kelly owns an immaculate 01 or 02 yellow SV650N and I like the SV twin so much I've gone for an SV1000S. Also, some advice would be greatly appreciated - what's your opinion on the merits of frame sliders/oggy knobs? I've heard they have a somewhat double edged reputation. Also does anyone here live in New Plymouth or know of regular rides in that region etc?

Thanks heaps
Alan Williams

Hi Alan, welcome, nice bikes those SV's. My personal opinion is... oggy knobs are well worth the money, saved my paintwork at least once. Have heard some debate on where the best place to fix them is, but other than that, only heard good things from other people on them. Surely there will be others here who are more informative than me though!
Enjoy it out there, ride safe!

Hi there and welcome back. I would second Mrs Kendog's comment on Oggy knobs. Definitely worth the money.
There are a great bunch of guys based in New Plymouth, I would suggest you PM Nadroj or Sensei and they can give you details of any rides going on.

Crash knobs are well worth having on your bike. Go for Oggy's if you want, but be aware that there are no-brand ones on TM for many $$$ less. They are just as good IMO and the guy I got mine off will make to your own requirements.

Just took delivery...:D The blue color looks superb outside  Gotta get those stickers off now!

Sounds like I'll be making a set of crash bungs then. FYI Engineering Plastics in Christchurch has 50mm dia. black/white UHMWPE rod for $20 per 200mm piece, as well as nylon and various other strong/hard/slippery plastics for a few $$ more.

Cheers
Alan

Welcome to Kb and back to riding!

SpankMe has a thread somewhere which has pics of his bike after an "off" on Taupo circuit. With the knobs it is difficut seeing where the damage actually IS!
A good investment.
