Anyone coming into Wellington from the Hutt might experience a wee bit of a hold up.
Coming the other way I saw what looked like a GN250 prone on the ground. This was about a k from the Ngauranga turn off. No idea what had happened as I was travelling (at a strict 100k) in the other direction in the rain, but the rider was upright by the median barrier so hopefully they're just a bit sore.
Be careful out there today guys. The roads are a bit greasy, and there seems to be diesel spilt all over the place.

I must have missed that - got into work at about 7.30 and all was fine then. Hope the rider's OK.
There seemed to be heaps more diesel around today than last time it was wet...

Yeah, I stopped and talked to the feller. He's unhurt, just embarrased and a few bruises. He's wearing all the right gear. Guy in his late 40s.
He says he was riding normally, lost concentration, and when he looked forward again, everyone in front of him had stopped.
Panic braked, and the bike went down. Original GN250 tyres on the bike.
Be careful out there guys, especially if you're not using European rubber on your bike.

Another thing - the corner of Cable Street where it turns into Kent Terrace is VERY SLIPPERY. Watch out, especially if you need to brake.

Yeah - those factory GN tires are pretty slippery. I've had a coupla interesting moments on them in the wet too.
Glad to hear the rider's ok. Thanks, riffer.

Must have missed this,
I arrived at work around 7:50am.
It is a tad moist out there today isn't it.
and another thing, who was the bright spark that thought it would be a good idea to place all the metal manhole covers on corners around Wellington? :shit:

Thanks Riffer.
I think I came along just after the guy had gone down. Could see that he was wearing decent gear and looked ok, but not much you can do going the other way.

When I drove past that The Ginny was upright in the safety lane and there was a herd of traffic patrol cars with lights blazin ripping up the lane. Bike didn't look too damaged so thought the biker couldn't have been too serious.
I also get the feeling you split past me in the traffic riffer, were you on a Red RF900? If so I was the blue Late model Mitsi Galant with a wanker plate in the right lane who moved right over for you.
Agreed fully about your view on euro tyres.

I hope he doesn't do this again. Took the cage to work this morning because I thought the traffic was going to be light, almost late for work, because of the hold up.

Glad the guy is Ok. Sure was wet out there this morning, and I forgot to change to the clear visor.
p.s. to Dodger re: manhole covers - Manhole covers are placed at changes in direction of the sewer and stormwater pipes - guess where these changes of direction occur! Gotta keep your eyes peeled aye!

Haha - me too - traffic has been so light this week, that I took the cage and was late too - must be the biking god telling me not to be a wuss when it rains :nono:
At least the biker was ok!

Same. Wasnt even sure if the GN had been in the accident or had just stopped to help.
I almost was a 2nd accident coming around that blind bend at Petone. The traffic had stopped and I hadnt :)

I had a legit reason for taking the bike.... First day back to work from the hols and I had to take my spare suit and all my "accessories" in.

No Problem, Happy to give a fellow biker some space to move. I think you pass me most days of the week and I've followed you on the bike through the traffic before too.

So easy to do in the wet.
For some reason cagers forget how to drive when the road is a bit wet, and tend to stop at all sorts of random times. Really have to keep your wits about you.
Years ago I found out how much it costs for a foot peg carrier for a CBR600F2.
My mate and I were traveling back north after visiting Southwoods and it was persisting down (he was on CBR6, and I had a CBR400 at the time). There was at least 2 seconds gap between myself, and my mate in front, and a stagger to boot, when my foot slipped off my peg. I glanced down to see why (STUPID I know), and when I looked up I saw the biggest CBR600 brake light in the world!!! The traffic had slowed to a crawl in a 100k zone, my mate slowed IAW traffic speed, but I had my eyes off the situation!
I managed to brake a little, but my right foot managed to collect my mates peg. Broke the think right off!
Now, where did the stagger go??? Who knows.
Two seconds? Yep, gets soaked up real fast when you are doing 90ish k.
Thing is, I thought I was being extra cautious, but apparently not! Taught me lots that day, and I am very thankful only my wallet was the only thing injured at the end of it.
Yes, our friendship was a little strained for a while, but we are still mates.
