Hey,

My new years resolution is to start swimming again, just for exercise for now, might compete if im still fast enough or might coach the lil 'uns

What do i need for swimming? just goggles and something to cover me up for (in)decent exposure?

Has anyone used their contact lenses while lane swimming (under goggles ovbiously)? how do you get on like that?

and finally does anyone use special prescription goggles? very interested in these in the long term but I imagine the costs are quite high...

Thought, opinions and comments appreciated. negative remarks wil be met with a "lets see YOU in the water then 'eh tubby?"

Contacts are ok usually... just have some contact cleaner handy for when you get out to clear off any chlorene or whatever.

Mind you, I never really went under that often, so might be different for you.

You shouldn't have any problems at all while wearing contacts with goggles or a snorkeling mask - I never have (apart from the usual fogging-up)

I swim in contacts without goggles with open eyes and haven't lost one yet....touches wood.... not wide open but enough to see, so goggles will be sweet

wow, really? i was on lake taupo a week ago water skiiing and face planted and kept my eyes open for a bit but i thought i was just lucky lol

spose i should add that mine are disposables (about $12 a lense) so no big issue if i do loose one

i figure i'll go one night wearing an old pair, take a spare pair with me and my glasses

churs guys, and lucky for me my mate lives opposite the pool so i get a bike park and a place to leave my gear too :D

Don't put ya goggles on too tight!

Once you get back into it there are some good sea swims in Aucks if you find that floats ya boat.....

I lost a lens just the other day in the pool. Probably wouldn't have been a problem if I was wearing goggles. It just kind of floated off my eyeball.
