View Full Version : Broken wingmirror - is there somewhere that can replace the glass?

The other day I jumped on my bike to head home to find some bastard had clipped my mirror in the carpark and I now have a massive crack in my mirror from top to bottom. I'm currently trying to find the bugger that did it.
Anyway I have booked for my restricted test in two weeks, so I rung the testing place and they have said if I turn up with my mirror like that it will be an automatic fail. I have enquired about a replacement mirror and was stunned when I was told they are $180!!!!
So anyway Warlock has said he will lend me his mirror for the day I do my test, so now I don't have to be in a mad rush to fix it.
Now my question is, is there anywhere that can replace the glass in the mirror? Or do I have no option but to buy a new one eventually?

do it yourself!
Go to supercheap or repco with your mirror, find another mirror with similar size glass bit, take the glass bit out of the new mirror and glue it on... hmmm this is hoping that you can take the mirror out of the new mirror...
Hope that makes sense because by mirror I sometimes meant the whole assembly and other times I meant the actual mirror.

Any glass place will be able to do it for you...
There is a place down in New Lynn........ head towards Portage Rd roundabout.... and just down Portage Rd is a glass place on your right hand side.
A few years back he quoted me $20 to replace my car wing mirror.
Take off the wing mirror and they will do it same day service.

i think by law you only need one mirror, so if you hadnt been offered a temp replacement, you could have just taken it off for the day.

when some dirty little coconut at the rugby club decided to smash the mirror on my GT250 a few years ago it cost me $48 to replace.
or is it extra for the pointy ones on the GT250R??

I have tried this myself years ago with a BMW that the parts people wanted $165 for (it was a K series and 12 years ago so $200+ in todays world!!) and found it really hard because most aftermarket mirrors are glued as well, this means there is a high possibility of breaking the glass getting it out.
It's entirely possible to do, and may save you a packet, but don't be too upset if you either;
!, can't find one the same
2, break the sucker doing the removal
Good luck:sunny:

I phoned 3 Hyo dealers, all quoted the same price.
Mt Eden suggested a 636 mirror as they are similar just not pointy, so for $120 could have a set of mirrors.
Other option is go to Cycletreads as they have a heap of aftermarket ones and find something similar

Hey Fub@r, i work at red baron(don't hiss at me) and i have a red gt250r i park outside now come past and have a look i put some aftermarket ones on it that are amazing and you can see a shit load further then the originals and the best parts is $180 = 1 mirror or aftermarket 2 mirrors =100 and i could probably knock a bit off that as well

Cycletreads definitely has a great selection of mirrors, we got replacement ones at $33 each for my bike. Even better than the originals. The originals which were shit were $110 each.
