Was just wondering... What kind of modes have other owners do to their GN250's?

(Any modifications are welcome. Pictures are even more welcome.)

Well there's the rust mod, usually builds up itself fairly quickly, or the slow mod, or the looking gay mod. I'm fairly sure you've probably got most of these already.

:Oi:... You're not helping!!!

I am sure the rust mod is not the reason it's one of the top selling bikes in New Zealand...

Dude... it's a GN, either ride it as is, or sell it and get something with some power.

Degrom gidday

Fittted aftermarket mirrors and handlebars after an earlier off. both the mirrors and handlebars make for a more comfortable ride. Pictures at this link:

What I did is not a performance mod, but a style mod. I can't see much point in doing a performance mod, as it's only a 250, and I'll be moving up to something bigger as soon as I get my full.
So, look at these pictures here: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=37163
Much fun!

Most of the stuff I have done on it was done to learn the stuff.

I have given it a metallic paint job and tried a little bit of flame work. It's still a few paint jobs away from perfect, but I have learned a lot on the GN.

I have remove the sissy bar...

Added my own handle bar's.. (But they need shortening.)

Add my own free flow pipe.

And there is more to come but you will have to wait till it's done... :)

You'll have to replace that straight pipe with the original muffler for a Wof eh?

I don't know... If you don't need a muffler for a Wof it might just make the Wof... LOL

Do all of the VTNZ places have DB-meter's now?

Don't you think your Mum will want her vacuum cleaner pipe back soon?

Your paint job looks good!

LOL... Don't give me ideas.. If Billy Lane can use old bath tub parts as accessories the I can use the old electroluxe's pipes.... :Punk:

Well good onya for having a go with what you have mate - choice effort.

The pipes are a statement but I think they are a bit long as a performance enhancer - How does she run flat out? I suspect it might stuggle a bit up top with them?

Cheers

Haven't run her full out yet... I want to get the carb's a bit richer first.

LOL... The pipe is that length for a reason. It involves me,Coyote and a flaming idea we have.... LOL

I think a twin piped GN would also look interesting. But I would go for a black engine paint next time. (You can never go wrong with black... LOL)

YES!!! YES!!! YES!!!

Just sad that the Legandry GN is only a 250. It's can only take skinny pipe's... LOL

Twin upswept pipes on twin port 'sports' singles was quite the thing pre war.

Convert the GN to Hand Change and make a 1930's sports bike out of it?

aside from my earlier post about spokie dokies, I happened upon an article in a bike mag about about top bike mods, and what do you know...the ginny is there;

So they suggest

Ditch the chrome, which it looks like you have done

New pipe 'cus the OE is shite and rots where the header joins

windscreen, for sustained cruising/motorway miles etc

In winter coat it with WD40 to stop it rusting to death

stiffen up the front forks with heavier oil or new springs and ditch the rear shocks for a set of 'hagons' or similiar - this should see a dramatic change in handling

stick on some decent rubber

lastly, apparently the DR350 engine, slots right in without to much bother, if you fancy more power....beats a bore-out I suppose,

cheers

mods are as follows:

straight handle bars
gn400 wheels/ swingarm
slashcut shorty pipe with removable baffle (actually sounds really bassy and grunty)
carburetor rejet (drill actually :p)
new mirror (old ones were arse)
pretty blue oil filter cover nuts
jackdaniels airbrush paintjob (need to get it touched up, few scratches on the tank)

I reckon the key mod for the ginny is the handlebar change... It makes it handle so much better. I got a set that dropped my hands way further forward and way wider and i felt a hang of a lot safer after it was done... It also fixed the mirror problem.

As for the unintentional mods...

- I bent the new bars out of shape
- Scratched the exhaust pipe a little.
- Smashed both my right hand indicators
- Ground down my right footpeg

And some low-lifes did the following mods without my permission.

- A nice protective all over coating of sand.
- Burnt out the clutch
- Removed the Seat
- Removed the Battery
- Removed the Rear shocks
- Cut the wiring loom just at the headlight.
- Slashed the tyres
- Scratched the tank
- Smashed the ignition lock

All of the unauthorised mod's led to me getting off the gn which i am eternally grateful for... Thanks guys.

Engine mods are a waste of time on the ginny. Get a real engine.
The gn has only one use... It is a stepping stone from four wheels to two.

Hope these ideas are helpful at all...

Pete

Well, I see the GN's as a cheap and easy way to learn how to build and modify stuff...

I modified the WMCC's work GN by rear-ending a van once. Was looking elsewhere... (aka perving)
edit: 636 posts and desperately in need of a new bike. Coincidence? I think not!
