oh was this the one that had the huge mud bogs on teh advanced trail at the start and right at the end? If so that was a mint ride. Flex went past me and gave his bike a throttle full and coated me with mud from head to foot on one side.

Now I'm really gutted I can't go. maybe I can come home early on sunday from Tauranga.......

It was a pretty good ride last year, just a bit slippery for the first half a day.
In the morning they had the track coming down a bit of hill and it had a reasonable sized ledge that you dropped off of and you couldn't see it until the last minute, they ended up changing that part has there were to many people doing endo's of the ledge. LOL.

Now I'm really pissed, I thought that this one was one of teh best rides I did last year.

That ledge was funny as fuck I nearly went over the bars on that one. it was a decent we drop that.

Yeah it was slippery as hell at first but as the day went on (and my confidence grew) It got better and better. And how about those god dam tree roots everywhere? shit they were slippery!!!!

How ridable is this for complete novices? I've recently bought a DR650 for adventure riding and want to learn (I am a complete newby) some off road skills.
So.... is this a suitable venue or am I going to be struggling the whole day?
I realise the weight / unsuitability of the DR issues so don't get hung up on that!

Appreciate any advice!

You will be fine, nothing hard about the track. It was just really wet at the start of the day last year, making the less experienced struggle a bit.
Never saw the ledge you guys are talking about. Perhaps I lept it in a single bound?:Punk:

Probably not a good ride for a big DR, unless it is VERY VERY dry

Actually I think this might be the ride that they had up on the Kaipara hills last year, not the boggy one that was down by the harbour. This is the one that the track was closed for 1 1/2 hours while they removed all the bodys, due to the slick hard surface. Does that sound right? The Helicopter came in with the body bags. Well not quite that extreme, but there were a few casualtys, and that guy rolled his van on the road leaving.

Oh if its that one that was at mount auckland. That is wher I blew my bike up really bad. Fuck that place........ bad memories

It was a great ride, but my crank seal let go and my bike sucked the entire contents of my gear box oil through and pumped it out the exhaust. Anyone remember a bike going up that massive hill at the end that looked like it was on fire? That was me......... Smoke machine!!!!!

your DR will do that one sweet as, just don't turn up early cause the greasy morning wetness will make you slide like i did. It's better after everyone has done a few laps and chewed it all up a bit. Oh and the advanced track was easier than the novice one!!!!!!

I remember that one my first ride on the CR125 flipped it going up the first hill at the start trying to do wheelies up it as their were familes with their kids at the top watching, sitting around for ages at lunch time !!!!got the sun burn!!!!
that was a good days riding, appart from having a fat lip after a quad cucked up a stone at me. Its a fast ride nice and flowing one pass through a stream that people were getting stuck on, don't know why was a easy just, blast it.

Make sure you put some decent tyres on the DR. The stockers are hopeless off road.

Anyone know what time it kicks off?

Minor cock up guys....its "my" wedding anniversary on the sunday so I'm not allowed out to play!

You should have heard the screams (mine). I must find a way of remembering these occasions, you'd think after 23 years it would be ingrained???

Anyway I will have to save my public display of incompetence for another time, thanks for all the advice guys.

yeah that track has been a bit of a shocker for spills. Too many fast long parts where people go nuts I think...........

People enjoy it though?

Yep was a good day. Running in the new 450 was easy as I found it difficult to use more than 1/3 throttle!

So when is the next event???

Yeah it was a good ride. A bit different to last year when it was wet. Actually I think it was better last year with the changing conditions as it wasn't very challenging in the dry. Lots of people seemed to be struggling with the hard pack cow pocks tho:laugh:
Cheese it wasn't the track up Mt Auckland, it was the one down by the harbour.

OK for the ones that missed the weekend ride, WHAT WERE YOU DOING!!!!!!!
this ride was dry as a bone only 2 little bogs, nothing but a little gas and your through. a lot different from last year. Very easy even the DR650 would have had a ball. Even had the little 125 maxed out on some of the sweeping straights.
Had a blast as always and will have to meet some more of you's at the next ride.
Nice to meet Barty 5
And another good day of riding with GTAe.
My high lite of the day as when GTAE broke his front break leaver on the first lap, chuckled to myself under my helmet.
Down side was when i broke my front break leaver on our 5th lap and had a tanty.
Also helped a couple of kids out of one of the bogs at the end of the lap,
just to keep GR81 happy.
All in all a good day:Punk:
