People have expressed the need for a thread that lets others know where plain clothes cops have been sighted. Please post your "sightings" here. This is not a discussion thread. So please do not post drivel or off topic stuff in here. The mods have enough to do as it is. Thanks in advance for your consideration.

Please keep this thread on topic, and only post in here if you have spotted a plain clothed police person/vehicle.
People have expressed an interest in using this thread as a resource, so no need for unnecessary stuff to be posted. So anything not relevant will be deleted.
This is not a discussion thread, facts only please.
Lets keep it clean guys.

wtf where'd mine go ya plonks :nono:
maybe make this one a seperate thread (laser trapping/motorway part)
Auckland..
Glen Innes: White (rare) and Black 'S' (late) model holdens (mags/spoiler etc), black usually has radar. Olive coloured older LPG/hubcaps model is common too. These cars are mostly just driving around but sometimes speed traps on Felton matthew Rd (steep) and Tripoli Rd around the school (5k tolerance).
Waterfront/motorway (often!!): Black S model holden (mags/spoiler). Often around the minigolf area on the sea side radaring. Lasers around the main docks entrance. Also by the bus stop on the dock side opposite hobby city etc (will hide behind other cars).
2000ish model Blue XR6 twin headlight sedan on SH1 north of brynderwyns towards whangarae
Red XR6 sedan (older shape) late 1990's around clevedon occasionally.
Common motorway spots for mufti/HP to laser.
SH16:
(northwestern motorway heading towards auckland in that order).
Before the first overbridge (royal rd) at the start of the motorway, lasers due to traffic density.
Before te-atatu rd offramp by the end of the bridge rails (can't see them due to sign/streetlights in the way). Laser.
Before patiki rd offramp (after te-atatu) on flush median between offramp/motorway. Laser.
(Rare) gt north offramp on the Emergency lane just as it turns off. hidden behind rails sorta...
Before western springs exit On grass at end of long straight under trees at the end (usually black S model). Then sometimes further up on the grass between off/onramps.
North bound for some reason hasn't really got much attention on sh16, not too worth running through apart from right at the end where westgate is..
Those are the common ones.. if you want I can do the SH1 going south to about papakura.. i'm on those motorways alot.

Also spotted on Nor western west bound
Van and cop combo just after Lincoln Rd on ramp. Hidden by the slope and armco.

Cant remember colour, but brown or silver, and didnt see reg.
Dealer Plates something to look out for too.

what else?
5) LONG (VHF) Extra aerial.
Look out for the 'covert' Holdon aerial. It replaces the car's standard radio antenna. It's much longer and thinner than a normal car antenna. Allegedly. So a 'bloke' down the pub told me..
And then there's the 'extra covert antenna'. Disguised as a handlebar moustacho and normally worn by Mr Mufty. And sometime Ms Mufty.

VERY COMMON sneaky spot for Motorways.. You will not see them untill it is too late.
Northbound on SH1 about 1 kilometre past the Oteha Valley rd on ramp. As you go over the rise (the on ramp merge lane just ending), look to your left. Because the motorway is built up here the left hand verge drops down quite sharply. There is a small gap in the armco and a gravel patch provided for the HP to park. Because it is in the gap of the armco, they reverse down the bank a bit, they are impossible to detect. The only time you will see them is if you look in your rear view mirrors as you pass by the spot. Even then you will only see their light bar and windscreen poking up.
IFYOU SPEED PAST HERE YOU ARE POKED.
Mr Valentine, or any of his friends, will help you find these boys and 'girls'
Black bling bling commodore on SH1, travels between town and papakura.

Northwestern motorway laser/camera locations:
Heading IN to town from Westgate -
On grass verge, left hand side before top of the hill at Royal Heights on ramp (right at the start)
In the dip after Royal Heights on ramp on the left hander, at the end of the armco barrier.
Under bridge by Te Atatu on ramp
Before/After Avondale exit and on ramp
Heading from town to Westgate -
Between St Lukes on ramp and Waterview offramp occasionally there is a cop in the bus lane observing traffic.
Generally there will be atleast one police car in the traffic patrolling this stretch mid-evening (5-7pm)

Going over Harbour Bridge, heading south in the mornings.
I have noticed a cop car waiting around the corner and stopping people in the bus lane to raise some taxes. Not everyday, but sometimes - whatever happened to Robin Hood?
It looks like a normal lane but there is a sign saying Bus Lane (certain times only) and the unsuspecting get collared in the mornings. If you come over the bridge in the near side lane and don't turn off at Shellybeach Road you'll be around the corner and into the trap before you know it. Watch out - saw a 999 rider getting robbed there yesterday.

Further in the city, coming down Fanshaw St, on Queen St/Customs St and on Parnell Rise/Stanley St intersections there are quick often bike cops catching red light runners and speeders. Also, on Fanshaw heading back to the north shore, I've seen a speed trap around the corner past Hobson before Nelson.
And North bound after the bridge there in teh quieter times there is sometimes an HP car parked in behind the barrier where the lane-changer-thing live, radaring people coming down the bridge.
I'm all for the red light checkpoints. In fact if any Auckland cops are reading thing - Fanshaw/Halsey St in the morning (and afternoon) is terrible for red light runners.
And as a quick aside, sitting at the lights at Queen/Customs a couple of weeks ago, there were two bike cops on teh other side of the intersection. The pedestrian crossing was going, and a cyclist comes up behind me and rides through the intersection with the pedestrians. One of the cops on the other side runs out and stopped him, when I went past they seemed to be exchanging words on the side of the road - I was very amused.

Wellington:
Last Saturday I spotted a undercover car on the way out to the Taka's. As you head north down the first hill after the Kaitoke passing lane, he was sitting with his radar on the old section of SH2 facing south. He's right by the intersection so can pull out reasonably quickly.
It's easy to get up a lot of speed here rather quickly (especially if you've just overtaken someone) so check that road is clear first.

The best unmarked car I have seen to date was a dark blue or black Ford F250 - it was driving down Queen St one even when I was taking a walk down there. Was a couple of years ago now.
Also there is a big black Chevy Suburban around - but I'm pretty sure it's AOS - still looks fairly mean. I wouldn't mess with it. AOS have SUVs (Nissan Patrols?) with big solid platforms on the roof protruding all the way forward to the front bumper, and they have Ford Explorers with fully tinted windows (all but windscreen). However you're pretty unlikely to get pulled over by them I'd say - unless you are carrying a gun I guess.

1)White Toyota Altezza seen in Pukekohe, lowered slightly with what looked like 17" mags, semi-tinted windows - no shit! Heard sirens and saw this guy fly past me, interior red and blue lights flashing and pull over the dude infront of me. Did a U-turn to double check and sure enough was a uniformed officer writing a ticket.
2)Also - Motorway at Ramarama Onramps both north and southbound. They either sit on the bridge over the motorway with a gun or on the onramps so you cant see them until you've just gone past. Vans sometimes park under the bridge.
3)One more - the road between Pokeno and Tuakau. A cunt of a blue XR6 partols there every day, a real rude bastard too.

Christchurch: There's an electric blue double cab ute with canopy (Courier/Navara/Hilux), it looks quite boy-racerish. Flew around a corner and missed a gear (stupid tiptronic 'box - put it into Neutral), looked up and this guy was right infront of me on the roadside with his hidden lights going. The Toyota (or in WGTN case, Mitsubishi) utes are for the commercial/truck operations. They also stop cars and bikes (but they ahve to catch us first, right ;-)
Kapiti Coast: New silver Nissan Maxima based at Paraparaumu; the normal blue S spec Commodore.
Also, thought I saw a silver Lexus (yes Lexus) 2 door this morning at paekakariki with a suspicious looking fluoro vest wearing gentleman inside. Will confirm next time I see him - hopefully passing and not personal contact . . .

You could post the rego as well.
To be even more helpful you should post the make, model, colour and rego of the Police's entire mufti fleet. Then all everybody would have to do would be to commit it to memory.

Hmmmph! With the average KB memory most would struggle to remember the colour let alone the rego.
Then again most of the time by the time the rego is noticed so is the pair of pretty red and blue lights.
And the fleet changes in number, make and colour faster than the imperial Hitcher Y-fronts.

Auckland has at least 1 black Holden SV6, and 1 silver SV6 with all the bling (spoiler, mags, tinted windows). They mainly cruise the motorways and have 360 degree radars to catch you coming from the rear. I have been pulled over by both, but didn't think of getting rego's, sorry. There are also numerous late model Holden panel vans and station wagons with tell tale lights in rear windows. Have seen the odd Hilux/Courier on Nth Western Motorway as well.

Saw a brand new Gold Toyota Camrey with lights on the dash on Astley Ave, New Lynn, Auckland. I didn't catch the numberplate though.
non the less, keep an eye out for gold camreys. it was a pretty odd colour for a car, probably the only gold car you'll see on most trips, so it shouldn't be hard to spot.
Seen on Peak Road Kaukapakapa.
Also a report of a Gold Honda Accord on West Coast Rd / Woodcocks Rd Rodney

Wellington is now using new model holdens, however from the frount the lights are no longer on the dashboard up frount instead they are mounted behind the grill and are much harder to spot!!
I tend to spot under cover cars by the lack of a rear spoiler and often a lack of alloys. Thats in wellington and the hut at least.

So let me get this straight, the police have all sorts of cars with varying degrees of covertness, they ship them all over the country and change them all regularly. Half the fleet has probably changed since this thread started. So just a thought... why don't you just keep it legal (and safe) and stop wasting time memorising a licence plate of a car thats probably long since been sold off?.... just a thought

Ah, the floru vests - best left sitting on the set.
And some black mesh draped over the rear red'n'blues and the radar seem to help with blending in.:shifty:
Fact: yes, you probably ARE seeing the same cars a fair bit (the prehistoric sense where once a danger has been seen the eye picks it up more easily the next time you see it)
But the random cars you don't spot are likely to be the ones moved around the country.

I think this was done a while back (edit: Yep, here it is the mods have merged), and concluded that they could be white, green, blue, brown, red, black or any other colour, and usually but not always Commodores, except for the few Camry's and Astras out there plus some Hi Lux's and they don't always have lights in their windows or are driven by uniformed Police. Some printed out the possible reg numbers and referred to "The List" when they thought they saw one.
It turned into a bit of a train-spotting-type exercise ("ohhh I saw the NZ Rail #3456 on the main trunk line yesterday oooeeer I was well chuffed" sort of thing).
Good on ya for having a go though :)

racefactory
7th December 2008, 16:40
mate this is a great idea but it's not practical. unfortunately there are a boatload of undercover cops- fucking too many in fact, and what's more is that they are all different colours/diff models of holdens/different cars even!
m8 has been copped by a pig in a Nissan bluebird, and they also have been using quite a few hyundais too. As for holdens i've seen executives, clubsports and even a monaro!
The only way you have a chance is to slow down for all holdens no exception and to be looking into the car, if you don't spot the uniforms then you are bound to spot the sirens sitting ontop of the dashboard. They are also behind the rear windows... also some have some weird number plates...
Unfortunately they will always be a step ahead of us at this particular game!
I think we should rather list characteristics of the cars- not number plates etc. As has been said- it will turn into nothing but train spotting..
What IS important though is that we have all the details of the fucking GINGA's cage!!! He goes round in some mufty thing don't he?
Good idea though ;)

This is why I hate holdens with a passion. Even if you're toodling along the motorway safely at 120 with trafic you have to slow right down before you can even tell whether or not there is a cop in the car. I have heard of a hyundai like trademe said which pulled someone up. Surely though, there must be a certain type of numberplate they have as registered police cars, right?

I asked him whether he is deliberately trying to look like a cop car, since he keeps his bright yellow, high-viz construction vest wrapped around the back of the drivers seat (looks like the driver is wearing it).

Seen one a couple of times now.
A red Mitsubishi van with a camera in the back of it. Saw it on the hill going into Albany from Silverdale direction on Saturday morning. Then this morning on the northern motorway, heading south. Both times it was hidden round a corner on a downhill stretch, where you'd be over the speedlimit without throttling. Neither time in a spot where you'd expect to see a crash.
