One thing I did while on holiday because I was in Canberra, coincidentally at the same time, was go to Summernats http://www.summernats.com.au/
Now it takes all kinds to bling up cars and bikes for that matter but one that made me chuckle is how this guy had tricked out a Lada Niva complete with V8 engine and all the bling like the air/hydraulic suspension that was said to be able to make the car jump off the ground. I only saw it doing the usual sort of dancing that those guys do - up and down.

By then my camera was short of grunt to deal with the darkness on long zoom so I have no pics of the stunts so I'm linking you to the Summernats website. Me and my son went along to this and enjoyed seeing the Aussie boof-heads and son enjoyed the bands that were playing too.

Yeah, the Lada is cruising around up north somewhere, baby and dog aboard. The Niva was a pretty good looking 4X4 really, and capable as well.....just nasty to drive and unreliable.I haven't seen a Lada with a rotary yet,but I bet someone has done it.....

Now I got told this Cortina can poke out around 3,000hp. It had me surprised they were happy to cruise these high performance drag cars around the oval for a few laps with no worries. When I was young the talk was a drag engine was built to do the quarter and not much more, but chatting to the guys now they say hell no we got electric water pumps and our cars are happy to putter around like pussys too probably less likely to overheat than street cars. Do you believe that?
