Have just picked up mates 2002 RSVR tonight for some Very much needed TLC . Bike hasn't been cleaned since buying it so looks not so pretty . Spent 1-1/2 hrs tonight degreasing it & covering the whole bike is RP7 & 808CRC Silicon . Will be left for a day till I clean off & then start to pull the bike to bits , wheels off all body panels , exhaust sytem , tank , seat ,forks etc to check all bolts & clean motor , Airbox filter then full service Oil filter & oil change , brake fluids , grease wheel bearings & axles . Then will put it all back together . Then will set up the suspension & brake levers etc , When finished will take back to mate & watch as he Freaks out what his bike can & should look like with some time & effort. Will post some after pics when all done . The last Pic shows the Carbon fibre on the rear guard has gone white from using the wrong cleaning products on it but have some Secret stuff that should fix it up & bring it back to Bling again I hope LOL

Dude, sorry to break it to you, but that is NOT a project! Nor a challenge! All it needs is a wash :D.
If you want a project, you can help me rebuild my seized engine =^_^=

Shit Sensei. Make sure he goes to Ape owner reform school before you give it back to him. Unless he's a lanky extra hard bastard, then you can just tell him that whatever he wants is ok by me.

Well tonight was time to get into the beast & start to pull it to bits . Once the back wheel came out the first drama was found . 42 tooth sprocket with 20 teeth missing just after a 5000k South Island trip last week ' Scary' to say the least pics below , oil tank mount broken / water pump leaking / altenator loose / brake mount peddle had one bolt missing other one held in by spring in front of it / Rear brake resesvor had sucked the rubber seal boot down into it blocking the hole so no back brake which i found out last night when taking it home . While there drained & replaced the fluid & all sorted . Belly pan of & then tank up K/N filter out & clean out oil from in side & servise K/N with cleaner kit . Went over all Rad hoses etc as well as allen keys which all needed abit of a turn . Tomorrow new sprocket grease wheel cush drives & wheel then reinstate then move to the front to do wheel / brakes & fluid plus clutch fluid . .

Wow !! That sprocket is SCARY !! :gob:
This is a Ally race sprocket which would be changed after each meeting , & shouldn't be be expected to do the mileage that is done on the road with it . Hence the teeth have failed. As with tyres spend the $$$ on your chain & sprockets .

An Aprillia might be my next one. Some great reports.
Noticed the bling on the K3. Ohlins front end as well? (Forks, springs and shims?) or stock

Ohlins steering damper as well but found that if you set up the front correctly on the stock forks with 5W oil they gave a good ride for what I like a fork to feel like . Not a track racer so more than enough with the other well set up stuff . Top gear like White power / Ohlins is only really good over 140ks to be noticed for its real advantage .

Hehe....it's the law of the cheque book. If you can afford it, buy it. If I had to 'deserve' a bike I'd be riding a Ural!
Not to worry, I took the KTM LC4 down to the Testing Station to get it re-VINned (I'm getting paranoid riding around with no plate!) so I'll have some wheels while Sensei is working his magic on the Aprilia.
Hmmmm...I wonder if there are any teeth on the KTM sprocket? I find "She'll be right, mate" usually works.......

I didn't buy it to look pretty, it's my sunny day hoon bike. I got it at a reasonable price, so I'm not really surprised it's got a few things wrong with it. It's an ex. Japan import, and with the trick bits, I'd hazard a guess at it being someones track day bike.
If it was a baby, it'd be one of the Kahui twins.
It seemed like a good deal at the time....bye-bye wife, hello Aprilia.
After seeing the mess it's in, I'm glad Sensei comandeered it from me. If I'd kept riding it, I can just imagine a chain wrapped around the front sprocket with broken engine parts!
I think I'm going to have to promise to change my ways before he gives it back.(If he gives it back!)
Iv'e been let down in the past by Italian bikes and their 'pasta' internals (Ducati Darmah & Guzzi Daytona), so I decided to treat this one like a Jappa....oil & tires only. I guess I was wrong again.
Once it's all back together, looking sweet and handling nicely (I hadn't played with the suspension either....) it will be Dazza's turn for a ride. It was him that corrupted me by letting me go for a ride on his Aprilia a few years back.
Bastard........

Yea abit more than just a Clean thats why I called it a Project, Was riding round till 10.30m last night from 6.00pm setting up the suspenion & other little bits . Tryed a couple of different tyre pressures till found the right one to work with the suspension settings . Then today took round to owner to have a look at it & try the set up to make sure he was happy with it , the look on his face & the Dribble that came out from his mouth said it all . We both sat down & just looked at it over a couple of Woodstocks & explained what would happen to has body if it got back to the state it was in , as well as ran him though some basic set up points . Took bike back home to tweak the rear throttle mixture & bleed the front brake ready for him to pick up tomorrow . Now what to do Oh yea mine needs another clean !

While I'll be heading for hell?.... :)
I'm well impressed with the work Sensei has put in. It's a different bike! Iv'e been riding around with stuffed steering head bearings for 6 months and only recently had them done.....and I thought that made a huge difference, but it's not even close to how it handles now the suspension is set up. The rear brake was something I'd never missed (since it hasn't had one since I got it), but now I will never go without again.
Iv'e even covered it with a sheet to keep the dust off. (Must have been those threats of physical violence?)
But there is one complaint.....against standing orders, Sensei washed the numberplate! The bloody cheek of it........

I'm afraid Aprilia heaven will have to wait.....I may yet decide Ducati or Moto-Guzzi heaven could be a better place?
After moving up through a Ducati Darmah to a Guzzi Daytona, then onto the Aprilia, I don't really have that much 'brand loyalty' (more of a V-twin loyalty?)......but it's going to have to be something special to beat the Aprilia.
The next 'project' will be trying to get some more legroom for my not too flash left leg (old MC injury). I thought a Tuono might be the way to go, but their pegs are in the same place. A steel plate with some holes in cunning places will do for a start, then , once I'm happy with the position, it will be time to shell out some cash and get mounts made up.

Haha. You slut. I too sell my loyalty to the bike of the moment. Each bike seems to have its strengths and compromises but it's been a long time since I've seen a truly crap one.
Good luck with the footpeg mods. Do those Thuuper Duke things have any better leg accommodations?

:gob: Surely you aren't implying that this is a bad thing? Can't be too long till KTM slap some clip-ons and fairings on a Thuper Duke and call it a sports bike.:D
IMHO the Thuper Duke is a great bike especially now they've put a bit more gas capacity on it.

Once I get to ride Dazza's bike & see what it is like then I'll make a coment but he is abit Scared to let me on it LOL . I believe we will see more High Preformnce V-Twins been made & developed in the next couple of years , They have come along way over just the last 5 ys alone . They may not beable to beat a Inline 4 in out right power just yet but then again they said years back they would get a 4 stroke MX bike to beat 2 Stroke bikes & everyone laughed !! :Punk:

IMHO the Thuper Duke is a great bike especially now they've put a bit more gas capacity on it. No not at all,KTM will release a sports bike that has been designed from the ground up, a totally new motocycle, not a variation of an existing machine ie. RC8 & Venoum (sp) it remains to be seen if it's a 1200cc V-Twin or a V-4.
And Sensei a few words come to mind ie. hell & freezing over !!!
