Stick with the old, or in with the new?

well my trusty old R6 is nearly at 60,000km and still (sorta) going strong. A couple of problems have compounded and resulted in the carbs being at a specialist to see if they can be rebuilt/repaired. By they time i get the problem sorted i'll have spent over $2k in repairs and servicing in the last year... half what it'd cost me to HP a 2006 R6, which by all means would be more reliable.

Now the dilemma is that after i've got the carbs sorted, and the clutch serviced, there is no reason for it to have any problems. Compression tested all ok, gearbox is pretty much as new, bottom end looked fine to the mechanic. Carbs will be as new or close enough, and i've had the electrical problems sorted. So theoretically i can look forward to trouble free riding. I've got 4 months before i go away to Air Force recruit course at which time i will be purely saving 98% of my income for 3 months.

Is it worth selling my current bike now and getting a new R6, or would you say to wait til recruit course, sell my bike then, and save up to get a new bike on the flip side of said recruit course?

Wait for the flip side fella. The current ride sounds like a peach, and I'll bet you regret selling it when the time comes.

Your expenditure sounds like the normal cycle with with any vehicle. Just a bummer when it all happens at once, as it always seems to.

yep, doesnt help when you are still working part-time (fulltime job to come) and put nearly 40,000km on your bike in 14months.

Keep the bike till youve done the course, think of the new bike once you have finished as say a Graduation pressy to you:yes:

looks like im going to hold off on the upgrade til after the course. Might look at a change in pace before i go down though as im throwing around the idea of touring the south island for a couple of weeks before hand and wouldnt mind something with a bit more torque and a slightly more relaxed riding position... time will tell

how much would you get for it if you sold it or traded it ?????? why not keep it for a bit and them buy a new one and use the old one as a full blowen track bike :rockon:

im guessing i'll get $6500-7000 for it. I've thought about having it as a track bike but at the end of the day its a lot of money to have tied up if you are only using it once a month or two. Would prefer to have a new bike and use the track as a training ground to push my limits and just enjoy the bike on the open road.
