View Full Version : Why is my bike not selling!?

Sparky Bills
19th January 2007, 09:53
Ive been trying to sell my CB for about 2months now!
And have not had any real interest at all!

Its a great bike, Tons of torque, good riding position, not hard to ride at all!

We now have an 07 Blade in stock, and everyday it sits there tormenting and moking me!
All i want to do is ride the bloody thing!

SO BUY MY BIKE!
Or tell someone else to buy it!

Its an 06 CB1300 (black/silver) by the way.

Everything/anything will sell if the price is right. Are you asking too much?

Sparky Bills
19th January 2007, 10:00
I wouldnt think so.
They retail for $14750, and im asking $12500.

Comes with Packrack, Micron End Can and Givi Screen.
Done 7000km's.

I thought it was a good deal.:innocent:

It probably is a little too much now that the clock has ticked to 07. You lose 20% of the purchase value when a year has passed, plus the 15-20% you lost when you rolled out of the carpark. Devaluation is a horrible thing to contemplate, and it is why I will keep any new bike I buy for a minimum of 3 years before selling. Lesson learned with the R6.

The extras don't add anything to the second hand value either.

It's so depressing trying to sell a much loved personal item.

Good luck though Mr Sparky Bills. If I were richer......

With 7k on the clock getting $10,000 would be good . even less if ya traded it .

Come on mate!

Seeing as you're in the bike industry, you should no that the acc don't really add to the retails price.....they may make it more attractive than a stocker......but..... $2200.00 less than a new one isn't enough difference to tempt people away from a new one!

I know where you're coming from, got a perfectly good '97 HD Sportster 'S' sitting in my gargre gathering dust, it looks like new, has 30,00km trouble-free km on it but nobody has rushed up to buy it.

Maybe I should actively try selling it??????

Sparky Bills

I guess ive tried long enough to get what "i want for it".
Its maybe time to get what i can get for it!

Oh and im not going under $10000!!

It's not just a function of price. Not everybody is desperately in love with big naked bikes. I've seen many of these types spend long periods of time in showrooms waiting for that special person to take them home and love them. Put some plastic panels and vacuum-cleaner hoses on it and you'll sell it in a flash.

Sorry bud , but watching how bikes sit around on trademe who knows ? I agree its probably worth more , but saying you won't go under X means you may well have to ???? As Crasher said , you're in the game, so you should know the game !!!!!! Gaz.

And like Hitcher said......it ain't always price.
BUT......they've still gotta be priced right for when THAT right person comes along....

I'm a naked bike lover.

Sadly I am not in the market as such a large bike doesn't suit my current needs, however if I was in the market I would probably be prepared to pay $10,000 max. with no value added for the accessories.

1) trade me has rooted the second hand bike market

2)cruisers and sportbikes sell, big nakeds are a smaller market and not so easy to flick on.

3)an offer closer to 10K would do the trick

I lost over 30% on the sale of my 05 blade which has done 11,000km. I consider myself lucky to get some money back though (cash via tardme)...

There are shit loads of bikes selling on the current market, SELLERs are destined to be losers I am sorry to say....

Darkman
19th January 2007, 17:04
$10K5 and it will sell mate. Its only money you are loosing at the end of the day.Money can be made back again but the fun time you are missing out on can't.And I bet you'll forget all about the money the day you take off on your new Blade.

grego
19th January 2007, 18:31
You seem to be stubbornly insisting that it is "worth at least" 10 000

There 2 kind of worth
The first one is a personal feeling and only applies as long as you want to keep an item

The second one is the "true worth" and comes in the moment you are selling. It is fixed not by market value, estimated value, comparativ value ar any other kind of valuation other than :"""WHAT SOMEBODY IS WILLING TO PAY IN CASH"""

End of the painfull story.
We all bleed for you, honestly..................:done:

Why is my bike not selling!?
Short answer Its obviously worth more to you than anyone else because you still have it!!!
Buyers market and all that.
Better to get 10k now rather than wait another 3 mths to get 9k
of course if you hang on to it for 30 years it could become a "collectors item" and you could get 100grand. Then again you may not.
Converting anything to cash, its only worth what someone will pay at the time. So how desperate are you to sell?

if its such a good bike why not keep it and get your moneys worth out of it?
1 year 7000km lose 5grand, 70c/km
3yrs 50,000km, lose 10grand, 20cents/km
10 years 150,000km lose 15grand 0.1 cents/km

But you know all this, you just want a new bike!

Sparky, what will the dealer who was so kind to sell it to you in the first place pay for it as a trade?

How much are you expecting to lose on the blade?

ceebie13
25th January 2007, 09:49
Maybe I could have two!! Then again...maybe not.

Give it another good birthday, Martin. Although clean, it looked a bit tired when I last saw it. Then again, that's just my anal fastidiousness!!

What really concerns me is that mine has now got 9500kms on it and it's younger than yours!! (Bought last October). Not that I'm about to sell it.

Sparky, what will the dealer who was so kind to sell it to you in the first place pay for it as a trade?

I suspect that question is irrelevant...imagining that Sparky probably got a handsome staff discount!! lol

Oh please... let's not be silly here, Moto. That makes any mass produced Jap bike unoriginal. Including yours!

For some people, myself included, 1300cc :gob:
Taking about a huge engine with an unruly power output (Busa benchmark) and the costs associated with such a large bike.

those big retros are cheap to run and power is just how you control it...big bikes arn't animals that wanna spit you off at every oppertunity...they can be as much of a lamb as your bike...take one for a test ride...you'll wonder what the hell you were worried about...

Having ridden the busa for a month now, I'd say somewhere between what you said and what she said...

It's all under the riders control, but you still have to watch yourself a lot more.

And I agree with most of what's been said here - a CB1300 is a bit of a niche bike, not a lot of buyers looking for one. Concequently you either have to tempt someone who wasn't really looking for one with a low price, or hang out at what it's "worth" for someone who is actually looking for one. A lot of big engine bikes are like that, middle weights are easy to sell. 250s are ridiculously easy to sell. Tardme has made the second hand market a bloody minefield for sellers. Good for buyers though.

I like the big heavier bikes. Having fun trying to find a replacement for "Roxanne" my CBR1000FL. So far I tried the Busa, The Blackbird and a 1200cc Bandit. None of those feel right for me. The Busa and BB bars are too close and low for me as are their blades. The blade and bar was not bad for me on the Bandit, and I was more at home throughing it around than on the BB or Busa (read that as riding faster), but I felt the Bandit felt too light and skinny for me. Will be trying a CB1300s and am interested in the new GSX1400 with fairing kit that has just come out.

dickheads asking 2k more than offered as trades by bikeshops are ruining trademe; I have successfully sold everything I have ever put on trade me.
Remember a sale requires buyer and seller to agree on price. Unrealistic start prices just take up space.:done:

So true, I have had 100% success selling on trade me including 2 bikes, I always set my reserves well below market value, get competitive bidding and close deals at acceptable $, some dick heads on there just haven't caught onto the auction concept and seem to think someone will come along and offer silly $ for their massed produced metal and rubber, even in the face of fierce competition.
