At the risk of sounding stoopid!! (maybe too late) - would it be better to resprocket my 2002 SV650S for more acceleration or put in a dynajet kit (My bike is still Carbed plus I have a Scorpion Performance pipe) - Or possibly both - money allowing?
What have you other SV650 owners done -
I'm not racing or anything - just want a few more horses possibly - plus a bit more zip. - My top ends fine and I don't mind losing a bit in this area.

Buy an SV1000. It will be cheaper in the long run.

Mmm - Thanks - You are all probably right about buying the 1000 - I'm yet to ride one - Will though - They certainly don't cost much more
Mind you I really love my 650 and would love to see what one tooth less on the front sprocket would feel like.
The jet idea - I know costs a whack more.

If you start the process you won't stop.

Put aside $5k now for modifications (+100% for "unexpected" problems that arise from the mods) to the 650.

Or you could call into a Suzuki dealer and trade the 650 on a 1000. The mods you make to the 650 won't increase its 2nd hand value, and you might get 3/5ths of the performance an SV1000 gets stock.

I'd go two teeth down if possible but you will lose some top end and speedo accuracy

Unfortunately I agree, my mate sold his SV650 (05) because he was getting owned by my cbr250.
Perhaps you could sell the motor to a Formula 3 bloke? And snuggle in a thou into ur frame. I won't tell anyone if you don't.

Thanks AP -Nice lookin bike you got - Mind you it has more space to paint up etc with a full fairing. Whats your mate bought now?

My old SV650S had had a aftermarket rear cog mod ( can't remember if it was bigger or smaller, whichever one makes it faster) it was okay and made it more 'zippy', but also meant it was a bit of a dog at low revs and needed alot of clutch dipping in traffic, it also screws up the tacho and it reads wrong, you can get this fixed with a 'tacho healer', but to be honest its not worth the effort.....

The best mods you can do on the SV is put decent suspension in it front and rear, top rubber and pimp out the brakes....then it'll go, stop and corner and completely transforms the bike, bugger doing anything else until you have got the basics sorted....

In 2002 performance bike mag took an untuned SV650 threw a big bore kit at it taking it to 700cc,cams and full exhaust system.....power went from 66bhp to 87......combine that with the SVs modest mass it would add up to a hell of alot of fun.......enough to give bigger V-twins the hurry up where it matters im sure. That was a carbed SV as well.

Won't lose ANY speedo accuracy... unless you change the profile of the front tyre, the speedo is driven from the front on the SV650. When my wife had a K1 SV650S, we got Brian Bernard to fit and tune a DynoJet kit. Worked really well

Thanks Dawnrazor - I once had a Honda XR500 and put an XL (Bigger) back sprocket on for racing enduros offroad. It improved accelleration nicely - thats why I was just wondering if it would work on the SV. - But I certainly don't wanna be clutch slippin!

I'd love to mod up the Brakes and front suspension - I'm not really heavy and so far have not really hassled with suspension - but better brakes I could always do with - Although I rode my mates 1200 Bandit and I must say I think if anything needs better brakes it's that bike - certainly not made for quick twisty road riding!

Now we're talking - but already probably costing quite a bit at this point. But I would definitely agree with you it would be a helluva fun bike.
I've found that since fitting the Scorpion Pipe I seem to have a bit of fuel starvation effect at peak revs. Not bad enough to really worry me. so I guess bigger jets would help. (may just be in my mind though).

It's all good 98tls, but he'd be spending waaaaay more on the SV650 than the price difference between his 650 and a new 1000. Can't see the point, when you could buy the 1000 and have money left over to hit the bling catalogue with the amount of money need to get the 650s to those specs.

Unless of course you're a bling hound, and I'm not exactly innocent in that regard.

The nakid SV Thou's are only 12k, with the 'S' being only $12500.00 right now. Did I mention we've got some in stock?

Have a look on www.sv650.org - plenty of technical info on there. I would stick to the front/rear sprokets and new fork springs/heavier oil - or just replace it with a GSX front end seems to work. Replace the rear shock with the best you can afford and this will get you around corners a lot quicker. If you are re-jetting maybe add an aftermarket filter - works best with full exhaust system... If its straight line speed you are looking for - just get a bigger bike - but the beauty with the 650 is you can ring its neck and keep yourself within reaching distance when you get into trouble. With the right suspension/tyre/drive setup it will add a world of difference. I used to have a curvy yellow one too :)

I've always thought the SV650 is a good bike to customise - you've proved it's true. post some more pics as you do more - Awesome. - what do you estimate you have raised the HP to, not that it matters - not in the least.

Went for a ride on an SV650 yesterday and found it felt very narrow, brakes not that flash and seat quite uncomfortable. But after about half an hour or so, I really started to LOVE that engine. My own bike is a pretty basic affair but almost felt plush compared with the SV. Like I already said, loved the donk though.

Likewise. Only had my bike for 2 months now. Slowly kitting it out with packrack etc so I can do a round trip with my mates at the end of February.
Wellington - Rotorua - Whakatane - Gisborne - Napier and back to Wellington.

Something about yellow bikes aye:msn-wink:
