OK we got talking about NCEA yesterday, about how employers might feel about it etc and people like me, Motu, Jantar and Ixion have memories from further back than many others and you know I've been sharing some of my holiday pics with you.

Well here's one last pic from Summernats in Canberra. Please tell me your thoughts on how the young guy is dressed?

Should us older guys be trying to do likewise because have we missed some true spiritual or emotional benefit from having our trou hang down way below the waistband of our under wear?

You're dealing with a very particular socio-economic niche group, there. It's Summernats. It's a drag thingie. Therefore, it attracts a certain group of people -- the bogans and skaties and all those kind of people.

Go back into your youth -- not sure when that was, but for interests sake lets say it was when the punk movement was around. Go to a punk music concert or something. A specific event, targetted at a specific group of people. From the picture you get from there, can you infer that all teen-20s people dye their hair pink and get ridiculous and painful-looking piercings? Hate authority? Wear black and white makeup? No, of course not.

Being a young person of today, am I missing out on some true spiritual or emotional benefit from having my hair dyed green and my face pierced with a safety pin?

I would be very wary of calling on those things you're implying as a phenomenon of `today'. It's not. Go back and watch Rebel Without a Cause again.

There were 2 "youths" in the Westfield shopping mall the other day. Both shirtless and hamming up the cool factor for all to see.

I see what you're getting at, and to some extent I agree, but in other ways I don't.

I just laugh at the bulk of todays completely fashion-owned youth... yes owned, fashion totally owns them, it rapes and pillages them, because to be seen outside, as a male for instance, without your undies showing, is unthinkable. If you think about it, the same applied when I was younger, but for a completely different reasons obviously.

The other part that makes me laugh, is the hoodies for the guys, and those fluffy sleeved corduroy looking jackets for the girls, these get worn all year round.... fuck that, when it gets hot, the sweatshirts go into storage, because I am not such a dickhead victim that I have to wear a hoody in 28*C plus heat... haha you stupid fucks, you're the very epitome of conformity, even though you say you rebel so hard against it.

The Xerox machine these kids all come out of, needs a service, real bad.

You know when you are young and your parents buy you clothes that make you look like a dork? Well, the sad part is, the young of today buy their own clothes...

As my husband says of 'style' today, if their parents bought them pants that were five sizes too big and shorts with crotches that hang down to their knees and showed off their underwear, they would refuse to wear them! As for the hoodie style - we were at the airshow in Wairarapa today and it was hot - as it usually is in Masterton. This guy aged about 20 was standing next to us in jeans, workboots, a teeshirt, flannel check shirt and hooded jacket! We only knew he had so many clothes on because the teeshirt and shirt were hanging down under his jacket - he could well have had a singlet on too! I was in shorts and a singlet...

And we thought the height of uncool when teenagers was your parents refusing to buy Levis and wanting you to wear elastic waisted denim pants instead!

lmfao...thats why my best friend buys new...reckons she can feel the spirits in the clothes :yawn: but hell...i save more money this way. ive got two pairs of jeans that get regular use, a few shirts, a jersey and socks and undies. also my boots and work shoes. everything comes from the same place. i love being able to say that every single stitch of clothing is second hand. shocks quite a few people!
