Really? From what the chaps I know at the local Fire Station tell me, a 17 hour shift comprises 2 hours at the gym, 3 hours cleaning and maintaining the gear, 3 hours playing cards or pool, and 8 hours sleep...
Hope you didn't have a rough day and end up actually firefighting for 17 hours straight. That's gotta be a downside to what looks to be a great job from the outside...
Hope you get a nice ride in once you wake up. It's lovely down here today.

Okay C6 your close, at my age I only do 1 hour in the gym, :apumpin: the dam things up stairs, so its a work out just to get up there :Pokey: .Our normal night is 14 hours, but I extended to 19 to cover a sicky, I don,t have to clean any more cause Ia'm the Boss or as we are known in our job "The Pig", so Spud and others your not the only ones called Pigs, the differnce is its my guys who call me that , not our customers. Your right about cards and pool, most fire stations in NZ do that,We have to do something to pass the time till some dumbshit wraps his car around a power pole. .
We also have to complete a certain amount of training every week, and of course there always KB to pass the time away, we also partake of very large very scrummy meals, and from time to time we have to study anatomy videos.  if you know what I mean> :nono: .
Another intersting job we do is provide coffee and shelter for poor :cold:Mr :Police: who pop in from time to time.
So yes I guess from the outside it may look a "great Job", In fact the more I think of it, It is a great job!!

Sounds like you do things the same way up in Auckland as they do down here.
One of my good mates, Matt, works in Trentham Fire Station.
It's a job I'd like to do, despite the bad stuff. Just a pity about me being unfit and all.....
