I was very rude the other day and barged in asking advice without saying hi....

I have just got my full licence and am looking to get into adventure bikes/touring as a hobby and have been looking at a couple of bikes....to use for my daily commute and the odd trip/off road (gravel and maybe trail) experience so road 95% off road 5%

any help or advice would be much appreciated..thanks XF650 for your help so far re the Freewind.

As for what bike that will allow you to do 95% road and only 5% off road, almost any bike with good ground clearance will manage that. But have a look at bikes like the DR250. A good all round bike that will prove reliable on the road, and light enough for you to learn gravel road and a bit of dirt riding.

Check out the nice blue bike (transalp) parked opposite dick smiths, it will do 5% off roading. It will also commute and eat a 1000miler. Similar are the F650, and DL650, all road biased but will do off road.

But face it, to learn off road you don't want something that big and heavy, it is a real handful in just a little mud. Also learning is really hard if you can't afford to make a mistake or two.

Try a DR650, XR or XT...etc (you could even get a set of motard wheels and have the best of both worlds)

Thanks all, still looking at options....seen the dr400 that someone here has on trademe.....but might be a little out of my price range will wait and see. Still trying to decide about bikes but the Dual Adventure spins my wheels at the moment tho any thing bigger than my gn is an improvement it seems so small now i have ridden a few bigger bikes.......

My wifes upset cause i am spending more on a bike than our cars worth but hey small price to keep me sane......amongst the rat race
