Hey all, I was wondering if anyone in Auckland area had a DVD burner who wouldn't mind making a few back copies for my CDs. I'll provide everything that you need!

Cheers, MR.

I have a DVD burner here.

I haven't used it to burn videos before, but I can probably figure it out.

Drop me a PM if you need it, MR, and we'll tee up a session.

Done it with lots of cd-rw's. LiteOn's were the best. Managed to turn a 24x into a 48x. Best part was there were hacked windows flashers so you could flash thye bios without even needing a reboot, let alone blasted floppies. Particularly helpful for someone who hasn't owned a floppy drive in 4 years.

Didn't DVDXcopy run foul of the law? And have to rip out the "burning" part of the application?

Actually wkid, I've used a few now and that includes DVDXcopy Platinum, as you already know, and I find DVD Shrink suits my needs best. I like the way it uses the burner part of Nero to do the job, and it also seems to work better as a background app on my P4. DVDXcopy seemed to use too many resources for my liking, and doing lots of Photoshop work seemed to result in rooted DVD's.

Cajun - what *nix you looking at running on the G4? I have a G4-400 Sawtooth that I used to run PPC Linux 2000 Q4 on (remember that linux? - I think it ran a 2.14 kernel - old stuff now) but this was before OS X was anywhere near even usable... I'm running Mandrake 9.2 on an old Compaq Deskpro at the moment... tried it on the laptop I'm currently writing this on - but not grunty enough.

Yes it did run foul of the law - every other copy software has fail safes built in that 'prevent' you from copying copywritten media - ie retail DVD's.

The argument put forward by 321 Studios was that they were only assisting the purchasers in 'backing up' their legitimately purchasing media - however, even the act of backing up any media (CD or DVD) is in direct contravention of copyright law.

You can still find copies of DVD XCopy 3.2.1 and 4.0.8.3 around - try www.magicalsoftware.net. This site also has interesting write ups on all the DVD Copying software (and links to just about every version of every program) - and they, like me, rave about DVD XCopy for pure copying of DVD's (note: I am referring to personal DVD's not commercial - however it does this well too apparently)
