Hi guys,
Just bought a new bike in Wellington. It's a 1987 VTR250F. I was wondering if anyone would be able to either ride it up to Paraparaumu or bring it up in a van/ute. I would pay for a train ticket back to Wellington and some booze/MTA vouchers.
HElp is much appreciated.

Why don't you buy a train ticket and come in and get it yourself?

So it's a good 'un then? Good stuff Matt - you'll love it. Take your time learn around streets you're familiar with and take it easy.

what sort of time on friday? (working)

i've always wanted to try a vtr :)

edit: hang on, is it a '87 vtr250f (is there a such thing?) or an '87 VT250F (more likely?), I dont mind either way - just curious

It'd be a VT250F, no such thing as a VTR that late back. Congrats on the new bike Matt, always a great time.

Oooh... should I? I really want to :D. Haven't rode properly in ages with my bike broken... but then again I'm a learner too, and how the hell would I get to Wellington then back to Auckland?

Would be fun, though. A proper uni-hols adventure =^_^=

Mate I say go for it!!! Do it yourself... imagine the buzzz! I bought a new bike recently and had to pick it up from the bike shop, ride it over this bridge in rush hour traffic and start and stop a million times... Beforehand I had only ridden a crappy bike at the bike school for all of an hour on a tennis sized cout. I pooed myself all night thinking about it... but needs must and you'll thank yourself later if you find the balls and ride it yourself.

VTR250! Nice one.
I could do it during the weekend...? Give me a shout if you can't get anyone to do it for ya, I have never ridden the train. Or a VTR!

Be brave, you can stay off the motorway all the way to Plimmerton, it's not too too scary. I do it every day and I ride a slow-as GN.

I could maybe do it on Sunday morning.

No need for a train ticket as the wife would pick me up on the way. (We need to get to Levin and back that day anyway [in the car]).

Will your insurance cope? (I'm over 25).

I'd be starting from Tawa.

Cheers,

Be brave, ...

My first bike.

RD350LC

Bugger all experience. Nothing legal. Just 45 minutes emergency braking training and I was off riding it from J'Ville to Palmy.

[That was 16 years ago... young + stupid.]

LOL Mate i agree with Hamie just go for it! you'll be glad you did! trust me, highways are nothing.

I could do it Thursday or Friday afternoon, but whether you want to entrust your new bike to a Ginny rider is a totally different story LOL

If you dont mind an under 25 disqualified rider, then ill do it, i dont do anything on fridays anyway......I take no responsibility for it getting impounded for 28 days though!!!

As others have said though, just go for it, maybe some people from here might like to meet you there and ride along with you, safety in numbers...

i dunno, (no offence meant) but can this guy actually ride? sort of sounds like to me that he has the license but no experience? If this is the case I say DONT go for it, the road is a dangerous place

If thats the case I have a trailer here your more than welcome to borrow!, I still say do it, my first ever ride was down the motorway with my mate sitting on a bike behind me making sure cages stayed away.

LOL, I was about to write the same thing, except i'm 25 and disqualified.

Bloody hell, where'd all these disqualified 400 riders turn up from? And offering to ride your bike to do you a favour... I don't know... :oi-grr:

It's not worth getting pulled up while disqualified on someone else's bike. It would make your disqualification so much more painful... in more ways than one. You'd have to wait longer, and you'd be fined more too. So, no point in offering then. Better to say you would if you could, I'm sure he'll understand.

If you organise someone to take the bike up, send me a PM if they want a lift back.

I don't mind tagging along on any ride.

I agree. I hadn't been on a bike for 13 years. Picked up an XJ Yamaha 750 (previously ridden a 550cc) from Auckland and went straight onto the motorway, bit scary but your skills come back real fast and it was the best thing I could have done - did my confidence wonders after it. I didn't speed (couldn't lol the most you could go on that thing was 120kph) before you were blown about!!

I could follow you out to Paraparaumu as I am staying in Whitby Friday nite.

That was nothing to do with the cam chains though AFAIK. Mine ran a big end bearing.
