US defense Department today unveiled what it called a revolutionary heat-beaming weapon that could be used to control mobs or repel foes in conflicts like Iraq and Afghanistan.

What a cool weapon.

What's wrong with the war in Iraq? I support it.

Sounds kinda like the early test of testing nukes...

"Righto lads - on deck, safety goggles on, face away from the blast"

"... you'll be fine..."

It's a bit strange though... using heat on the Iraqis. Hell - if it works on them it'll work on anyone.

So are they saying it causes a burning sensation without burning? i.e. if you are a real tough nut and sit in the heat ray for 20 minutes you'll have been in pain but not actually cooked?

We already see rioters wearing helmets so it's only gonna be a matter of time before they turn up in heat proof reflective clothing innit?

oh let them have their fun.

Marconi who originally came up with the idea of microwaves being used to heat things (hence the oven) noticed whilst playing around with high frequency radio he was developing that the chocolate bars in his pocket were melting.

Early applications were for heating buildings, or rather just heat the people in them. So how would you feel about working in a large but low powered microwave? Don’t think this weapon would be ‘harmless’ in the long term. Poor volunteers.

so, what's stopping people to riddle the reflector with bullets?

Correct me if I'm wrong, these 3000 are professional soldiers, right? It's a risk in that job, and they signed up for it...

When are the Merkins going to realise that they're no good in small wars.
Invading undefended islands or world wars are their forte.

just one point, most of the fighting in Iraq is what is known as urban warfare.

Something unique tho is that in this conflict most of the US soldiers are not being killed by friendly fire.

So, this Iraq thing is a "war"?

Can someone please tell me EXACTLY who USA 1 (United States of America), USA 2 (United States of Australia) and USB (United States of Britain) etc have declared war against..........and why?

C'mon, seriously, pretend I'm a gullible school kid (it ain't that much of a stretch, ask my missus) and explain it to me with a straight face.

Oh yeah, and leave out any reference to 9/11 or terrorists, 'cos my school has got the internet and I know most of those dudes were Saudi Arabian. And leave out Saddam Hussein, 'cos I know you don't have to invade and occupy a country for years and impose your own government to take out a couple of bad guys.

You can leave out any reference to oil too, 'cos Mr Bush said it's got nothing to do with oil and he's the President and he won't lie.

So the reason's for all this sufferring are.................?

What has Iraq got to do with terrorists?

Most of the 9/11 "crew" were Saudi Arabians. You know Saudi Arabia don't you? It's that country next door...with lotsa oil....and the ruling family propped up by, er, which country was it again......oh yeah, that's right the US.

I kinda figure the general populace aren't too happy about it (they illegally parked a plane or three in the US in case you hadn't heard) but the US don't seem to read between the lines of dead very well.

So lemme get this straight: a group of people from predominantly country A kill thousands of people in country B. Country B is pissed off but can't do anything about country A 'cos they have got a lots of energy, lots of friends and the arms they have been selling/giving to them for decades. The ruling family is friendly but the populace hates your guts, so how do you secure your energy without pissing off the populace even further? What to do?

Easy, take the soft option of attacking/occupying friendless, poorly armed, energy rich country C. Energy supplies secured, you are less reliant on country A, problem solved. "Goddamit, those country C boys look and sound just the same as those country A boys, no-one will know or care about difference back home."

The war ended years ago, when the Army surrendered. What is happening now isn't a war. It's just dickless bastards blowing up their fellow countrymen.
