Looking for a 250 road bike for the stepson.
Dunno what, whether a cruiser, sports etc.
Probably leaning towards a sport/tourer type. Must have a live rego, and be reasonably sound.
The bike will only be used a few times a year and has to be capable of maintaining 100kph.
Theres a budget of about 2k, that includes getting it transported to me.
Anyone got any ideas or have such an animal for sale.
I'm pretty well open to most makes and model types.

My Friend .. i hate to do this to you i really do .. but for that price the only thing you are going to buy is a box of parts.
250's are needed by everyone and as such the price is completely stupid ..
Have a look on trademe for 250's and you'll see what i mean.
That being said ... you never know ... you may come across something ... but i would be prepared to up your budget a bit if i was in your position.

For $2g you could get a thrashed RGV250, I know... I did when I first started riding. Cost me a couple thousand more in repairs and maintenance, not to mention the fuel mileage was stupid, and it sucked expensive oil.
I just got my full licence, but I'll still be looking for an FXR150 for my GF to learn on, and for me to use as a commuter. But I'll also have my race CBR600, and another 600 for the road, if I can get my finances together.
FXR150 is definitely my bike of choice in that price range... In fact I'm going to be looking to buy one soon.

Yes, I've noticed the prices are silly sometimes.
And I've seen some of the junk out there.
In fact sometimes it seems that mid size bikes, say 400s etc are cheaper and better than 250s advertised.
There are a few on TM, 250s, that fit the bill ok that are on my watch list, but mainly GN250s or SR250s, but he has a GN so was wanting something different.
But, who knows.

Yes 250's do command silly prices.

Seems nay 'tis.
Supply and demand - most learners will be able to swap their 250 for a 400 or 600 and get money back from a dealer these days.
That's legislation for you.
BUT forget 250 and go down the RG150, KR150 or FXR150 road. They all seem to be about $2K - the 2 smokers are a barrel load of fun (yep - faster and better handling than even your Hyosung young Warlock!) and will teach the lad the value of maintenence too!
The 4 stroke 150 is alright I suppose half the h pof the other two but more fuel effective and a little cheaper to run.

Shame that puts it $1,200 over budget then innit?
Anyway - I saw a Spada in worse condition than yours being sold at a dealer for $5,595 - your's should be worth $6K with the flash seat that's on it.
When you want to sell yer bike bring it to Auckland.
