View Full Version : Who did their Full in Browns Bay recently?
placidfemme

I've just gone and booked my full license test for next week in Browns Bay. I choose Browns Bay because I lived there for a while and know the area, did my restricted there too and had no problems.
Did anyone on here do thier full in Browns Bay? Any ideas on the route they will take me on?
Also any general tips on the full test would be appreciated.

Out of the Soccer Club turn left on to East Coast Bays Rd.
Turn Right onto Sartors
All the way down to Glencoe turn right, Beach Rd turn left.
Right into Anzac, left onto Glen Rd
Left on Bute, Right on Beach Rd
Left on Carlisle
Straight through Oteha Valley Road
Onto the motorway - off and Greville.
Left onto East Coast Bays rd again and back to the soccer club!
I found the test pretty easy (I did my full about 8 months ago). Watch out for the school along Sartors. It is BUSY and narrow. Just take it easy and ride to the conditions. Try not to lose the tester (I did this - but just pull over and wait). Come to a COMPLETE stop at stop signs. Watch your speed.
The hard part is navigating based on their indicators and trying to concentrate on everything else too!
Be friendly to your tester
Good Luck!

lol I think things are a bit different now... as long as the figure 8 isn't too tight I should be fine... couldn't really peg that at the ride right ride safe course... maybe because of my quarter turn throttle or maybe I just suck... either way... :Punk:

i was told to allow about 40 mins... took all of about 10 mins. basically the same as the restricted course- mine was straight across east coast, and make your way down to browns bay.... as per baracus.... although mine never went near the motorway... stopped at greville road and he wrote out the licence there and said see ya later.... just make sure you stop fully at any stop sign (even if you put your foot down thats not enough) and indicate at the little roundabout in browns bay on beach road. easy as....

Yep, mine was pretty much the same route etc. when I did it last year March. Only different was instead of the motorway I went out on East Coast Road (not sure if it is still 100km/h or now 80km/h). But it is really a piece of cake Tammy!!! All the best, you'll be fine. Send me a txt when you're done and maybe you can pop in for a celebratory :drinknsin when you're done.

lol would be kewl... My restricted only took about 10-15 minutes, Sam's was a bit longer, but then again she had to pull over cause she got a blood nose and then she got lost lol and the instructor returned to the base (soccor club or whatever) and left her out there alone and lost... only took her about 15 minutes to find her way back... (edit) and she still passed!

I lost my testing instructor a couple times :shit: and even made a few detours  because I failed to see his car indicators (Toyota Windom with faded indicators and sun shining onto them).
Got really good at doing U-Turns :dodge: so he didn't have to test me on that point.
Note: Remember, stop means stop, TWO feet on the ground, count to 10 and proceed if clear.
Edit: And don't expect them to follow immediately behind you after a stop sign either because they won't so you'll have to pull over at some stage and wait for Mr/Mrs Snail to catch up.

Good luck, i got my restricted there on 12th march. Where did they make you do a U turn? Hope it's just at the end of a street or a wide road, if its a thin road im stuffed. Damn ZXRs turning circle and hand stuck against tank turning

Yeah, I did mine there a few months ago. Pretty much what the others said, but I didn't go on the motorway possibly 'cos mine was an overseas conversion. From the club, down Sartors through Glencoe into Browns Bay proper, turn left and pull over near the council orifices. Bit of a chat, back up to East Coast Rd much the same way, then out towards Silverdale, pull over at orchard place and do a U-turn, back to club, 'nother chat, hang around and get bit of paper.
Didn't find it too tricky but I'm comfortable and confident riding as I had spent many years doing so when younger. Also went heavy on the head wobbling and mirror checking, rode like nana (almost always do) and kept the tester in range at all times. Testing bloke was nice, even told me to "take it easy out there" when we were finished.

What day next week are you doing it Tammy?
I'm meant to do it on Thursday afternoon... But I binned my bike yesterday morning on the way to work :bye:
So I'm going to try to source the parts I need, the indicators should be no problem as they are always in stock at bike shops, but rear brake lever might be a bit harder to find, if I can't find anything by lunchtime today I'll have to call them and postpone it...

Well my version of the accident is this (I'm saying my version because it all happened so quick I'm not 100% sure what I did wrong).
I was going to work as normal, saw over 6 cops from Onewa Rd to the Fanshaw St Offramp and thought "I'll be good" and stay in the flow of traffic, whereas normally I split all the way to work. On Fanshaw St (at the lights near the Vodafone Building) I was behind a driver in a black car, I was keeping a close eye on the 4x4 behind me because he had been right up my ass from the harbour bridge, got to the lights, traffic was moving at a decent speed (about 40kph), came up to the lights, traffic was still flowing, the traffic wasn't too backed-up scanned ahead to see if the traffic was flowing enough for me to change into the bus-lane, black car ahead had about 4 car spaces between him and the car ahead, looked in my mirrors to make sure the 4x4 behind me wasn't right up my ass again, as I looked in my mirrors I heard tyres sqealing, instantly looked ahead again and saw the driver of the black car had come to a stop (it was his tyres I heard), jammed on the brakes and the bike went down with just cm's to spare before I would have hit the black car ahead of me. Just before the bike hit the ground looking directly ahead I saw the exaust pipe of the black car and can only remember thinking "shit". As the bike hit the ground I heard more tyres sqealing and thought "fucking 4x4's gonna hit me". My front tyre slid under the back of the Black car and came to a stop because of that.
Next thing I'm jumping up and turning the bike off. Guy in the black car gets out his car (he is now stopped right in the middle of the traffic lights... for no reason that I could see... and he's asian... not that it makes any difference), he asks if I'm ok, while 2 builders waiting at the lights to cross come running over asking if I'm ok, first reaction is "yeah I'm ok", Asian guy gets back in his car and drives off. Two builder guys help me pick my bike up, another biker on what I think was a yellow/gold Trumpy 675 pulls up and starts to put his stand down to possibly offer assistance, I look over and ge gestures "are you ok" and I gave him a thumbs up... and he rides off...
Thats about it really. I was checking my mirrors for 2 seconds and in effect wasn't watching ahead and didn't see this guy brake until I heard his tyres and then it was too late.
So looking at it logically, can't blame anyone but myself. No harm done to myself, just a bruise on my hip, sore neck and sore arms. Very stiff today, but otherwise fine. The bike is looking even more munted now lol.
Front fairing on the right side is damaged and needs some fibreglass repair work done, right indicator ripped right out and smashed on the road, rear brake lever snapped off. The rest of the damage is just cracks in the lower right hand fairing and scratches. Nothing major.
My leather jacket has a nice big scuff on the shoulder, and a big scuff on the elbow, also some of the stitching has been ripped, but not enough to really matter. My right boot has a patch scrapped off the toe slider, no worries... and my draggin jeans have a scuff mark where my hip is... no damage to helmet at all.

Thanks :) He did look pretty sorry when he asked if I was ok, worried rather. But I don't blame him, legally I should have left a big enough following distance to have stopped in time.
Well only need to replace the indicator and the rear brake lever, indicators are not a problem, the boss worked as an electrican for over 15 years and has already offered to install the new ones over the weekend (just need to buy them lol) and having some issues finding the brake lever as Kawasaki has none in stock and looking at a good 6 days to 3 weeks for delivery. Wreckers have some in stock but the guy I spoke to didn't know the price and didn't know if they would fit the "C" model. So have to wait for him to call me back. Also have put a post in the Online Trading Section for the lever, but no bites as of yet...

A mate sat his restricted there this week. Got failed.
Apparently he didn't come to a complete stop at a stop sign, so the guy pulled him over and told him that he'd "committed a serious traffic violation".
What a wanker.
Should've shown what a really serious traffic violation is.

Yeah they can be really anal about stop signs. BOTH feet on the ground for at least 3 or 4 seconds otherwise they fail you.
