I don't see why the criminal gets priority over the victim? Nice eh?

Welcome to British law. The lunatics took over the asylum a long time ago.

Same thing happened about 6-12 months back by my memory, once these scum realise there's a loophole they can exploit they'll go for it. The last one was a guy who had just parked up his scooter and someone stole it right in front of the cop, again, wouldn't do anything and ended up in the papers.
I'd be surprised if these two hadn't read the first report and decided to give it a go themselves.

They reckon that, in time, this sort of sh*t gets so bad that the 'pendulum' starts swinging back the other way, ie society goes back to victorian values, where yer shipped off to an unknown country on the other side of the world, just for nickin' a loaf of bread...
In the meantime, and until that happens, I count my blessings every day that I left that sort of bollocks behind me. You kiwis don't always realise what an ace place you live in...:Punk:

Yes I do. Every time I meet an ex-pom.

Which just goes to show that a little judiciously applied 'civilian justice' can go a long way. Follow the bastards home yourself and then ring the cops, or knock the little shits off and say 'ooopps sorry I didn't see you.'

You can't be an ex-pom. You're either a pom or not a pom. It's like being a hedgehog. You are or you aren't.

so lesson learnt here ... if you want to go and steal a brand new bike then just pop your helmet back down on the table and the bikes yours

Only in the UK could they do something so utterly pc that it's beyond belief. I am so glad that I don't live there anymore.

You're right. I just had a search and it happened just a few months ago:

Then there was the other classic, when a kid had his bike stolen, someone spotted it and told him where it was, they told the police who advised to go round there and steal it back, but don't get involved in any violence!

Excuse me, as someone else said here, aren't the police supposed to care for the victim, not worry about the criminal? Break the law, steal a bike and fall off and hurt yourself when being pursued? Goes with the territory if you ask me.

Yeah that's the next step. If the police aren't prepared to chase them, the victims will decide to chase them instead. And we all know that's likely to end in carnage for the crims, the person chasing them and anyone else unfortunate enough to get in the way. Wouldn't it just be simpler if those trained in pursuit went ahead and did their job?
