okay guys...doing some research here...how many KM's do you get out of a set of tyres...if your a racer I'm not really interested...but if you do trackdays I'ld like to know still...and milage on second hand tyres is also irrelivent...
And could you also post what bike you ride or if your a bike whore what style of bikes do you usually ride...and what type of tyres you useually use? like sports/sports touring/touring/high milage/budget chinese used condom tyres,etc...
and the poll isn't public so don't be scared to be totally honest ;)
Thanks peoples :)

from memory i got 12k out of a Z6 rear, the m1 front was still going at 16k but took it off for the Pirellis.
I think the original M1 i had on the bike lasted 5-6k rear, 8-10k front.

Bit too open ended to give a straight answer.
Are you talking legal or canvas? I suspect that would alter figures a bit from one person to the next.
Vipers - say 4,000km rear - 8,000 front
Z6 - say 10,000 rear
M3 - say 6,500 rear - 8,000 front
Azaro - maybe 12,000 rear (did 8,000 before got rid of bike)
macadam - say 50,000 rear

Where's the "No PharkinIdea" button? :spudwhat:
I just ride the things till someone says, "Eehh... those look a bit knackered!" then I put some more on. They're usually looking pretty good till I go on a group ride, then they instantly go from "There's many miles/months/trips left in them thar taahrrrs!" to "Toast. Them thar taahrrrs is toast."
About a year, give or take a group ride or two.
Edit: I actually went and read the other posts. My taahrrrs wear out at about the same time, so always get replaced as a pair. They're a matched set: sports front and sport-touring rear. The exception to this was many moons ago, when I had the VF500, and the back tyre (Arrowmax???) was made of steel, and lasted forever, and was still on the bike when I sold it 4 years after having it fitted, whereas the POS Dunslop on the front lasted about 18months.

Currently approaching 19,000kms on the original factory set of tyres on my Vulcan 800. They will both need to be replaced soon though.
Edit: just rolled over the 20,000 km mark and the tyres have had it. They are (were) Bridgestone Exedra's.

I ride the bike in my profile, it was fitted new with Rennsports, the front is still the original at 9700km. The rear tyre was replaced because the air fell out of it while sitting in the garage, the tyre was almost bare at 6300km. I put on a M3. The front is getting close to buggered. Will replace that soon, and a M3 will go on there. And the next change depending on how the rear lasts, might look at a Roadtec Z6.
I have only riden road. I am no corner freak, but being the first bike of this size I have riden, me confidence is always improving, as long as that stops before I go to far one day!

About 7,000k's from the Pilot Powers on the RSVR. Couple of track days, lot of commuting, the odd weekend run. I'm on the fast end of "average" pace, no road racer but not a nana either.
There's still life in the pair yet (just got a warrant on them so they are legal depth still and they have maintained a reasonable profile) but will be swapping them out some time soon for something a bit "fresher".

ZX12 and got 16000km plus out of Avon Azaros.....
Stone me:gob:, that's amazing! Usually 6000-7000 km from my Azaros. Best ever was 11000 km from a set when a fair proportion of the distance was used up getting to the Southern Cross Endurance ride, doing the ride and getting home again. Tyre compound is an obvious factor, how you ride clearly has a bearing but road surface and ambient temperature also has a huge impact. Bike weight is also a consideration. Very hard to correlate all those factors.

Crikey you cahsps must have lots of money. I'm not really sure how long they last, but I should be irate if I didn't get at least 20000 km out of a tyre. And certainly not buy that sort again.
Continentals on the BMW, Michelins on the Titan. If the GT750 shit rubber ever wears out I shall fit Avon Speedmasters. ffwabbitt has Trailwings, which are wearing (still should be good for 20Mm - thaz Megametres , silly) though. That will be a hard choice when they wear out.

I have been running with Avon tyres on my bike. The last set of Avons I managed to get 34,357kms on the Rear Tyre and 41,435kms on the Front tyre
When they were all worn out, I have again put Avons back on the bike again.
So far got 24,580 out the new Rear tyre and over 6,000 on the front tyre...

Generally over 10,000kms plus. Use anything I can get for around 350 a pair or less. Prefer ME33/Lasertechs as front tyres. Prefer ME55/Lasertechs for rears on the 750s. Currently trying out a BT45 on the front of Gerty. The GB has a Barracuda rear which suits the bike well. The CX has cheap tyres front (Hi-Max with similar tread pattern to ME33s) and back (Shenko something with no center groove). As yet have not cause any greif in the wet or dry.

Worst from Dunlops, rear 3200kms front 4500.
Average for Metzler Z6's 4000-4600 rear and 6500-7,000 front.
Best were Michelin Pilot Roads, 7,000 front and rear.
I am thinking of buying shares in a tyre factory cos these things aint cheap.

I hope to get 12 to 13,000 Ks from a sport touring rear: Z6, BT020, etc.
Doing 20, 000 Ks a year that means two sets at $500 plus each which means every week I spend about $20.00 on tyres. I could put sportier rubber on and that'd be nice but $40.00 per week - just for tyres? No thanks!
If you just ride around the bays on sunny days, or if you're independently wealthy, (or a politician?), by all means use sports rubber. If you ride most days though, the mileage tends to dictate the choice.:dodge:

I claim the record so far... 68000, yes sixty-eight thousand kilometers, with the stock GN250 front tyre. Low horsepower = long tyre life I guess.
It's rock hard, harder than the road itself I'd wager, and it's the original one when it was fitted at the factory in 1986, and it was kinda cracking and perished all around the sides. I wasn't the one who put the Kays on it by the way, I would have been nine years old when the tyre was fitted.
I got rid of it happily, replaced it with a Pirelli.

1. I rider a cruiser.
2. I dont thrash the tyres...
3. The tyres are not of soft compound as they are for the sportbikes.
4. These kms are all done by me on the bike and not previous owners or any other rider, so that I know they are genuine kms.
5. I have never ridden my bike on a track to wear out the tyres either.
As to why...... I guess all the above answers and the fact that it just happens.

Surely there has to be a compromise here somewhere, what are they like in the wet or in the twisties ? Thrill has to come before economy thats why I ride a bike anyway. I use to have a XV1100 and only ever got 10-11k out of anything I tried. I thought it handled reasonably well considering it was a cruiser.

Twisties - Just ask anyone that rides with me....... She handles real well.
Wet - No problems..... but I do slow down my riding ways when it is raining.
Thrill factor - Yep I zip zap my way around on the roads.... no problems. Whether thats in the city or the country roads.

My fault I jumped to the conclusion you had a bigger bike and felt you were winding us up. I put new tyres on to go the "The Burt Rally" from Auckland and they were halfworn by the time I got back. I ended up with a plug in them after about 1000km and went down in a group with a scooter yep a Gilera 180cc scooter thing went amazingly well, but we weren't fanging it everywhere partly because of the plug, but I still expected a bit more life from them.

I replaced the front @ 7500 cos it was slipping in the wet, still had over half the tread on it. The rear was replaced @ 11,500 cos it was getting a bit close to the limit. They were the dunlop sportmax's supplied with the bike.
Best wear i have ever got was from michelins , 17,500 rear & 32,000 front , that was on a Suzuki gsx 1100 ex.

I do a lot of two up work and I had to replace the rear last month having bought the CB last October. In that time I had done 7500kms, but I think I sent it to an early grave due to not checking my pressures before setting off on our tour of the N. Island. Oops! Slapped wrist. Running with that load even slightly under pressure resulted in quite drastic scalloping on the edges of the rear. If I had done my pre ride check properly (read "at all") then I might have squeezed another 2K out of the tyre. My riding style is not aggressive at all. (Big wuss you see). So, lesson learned.

Genraly get about 8000 out of rears, 12000 from fronts on SV1000 but GSXR eats em between 500 & 2000 ks depending on ride mode must admit the set that only got 500 were used a bit harder than the law would like . The SV gets consistant milage whatever the use except that shingle roads tear up the tyres ,and paint a hell of a lot faster so can't give an average milage as use and milage varies so much. As for tyre types I'm constantly changing to try and find the best ones as a result of this dont often have matching tyres.
