I have been drinking Vodka cruiser for sometime now but find when i drink i end up with a migraine after about 2 bottles. I have drank most spirits and i don't like a lot of them but i really need to find something that is not going to give me a migraine so my question is if you have had this happen to you and what have you ended up drinking. Sorry Noal i don't think port would work for me. Suggestion appreciated.

Ps hitcher have fun with your spell check on this one.

Stay away from anything that is dark in colour - rum, anything with coke in it, red wine etc, try vodka and lemon, white wine, G&T - or you could always stick to water:dodge:

Just to hijack the thread by being on-topic, I get the same halfway through my first glass of Chardonnay. Reds are fine and so is most other whites. I asked a vintner once who said "oh yeah that's preservative 212..." or something to that effect.

"Preservative"???? Wtf, I thought wine was a naturally fermented grape product {Insert Tui Moment here}

So, it might be that you are also allergic to one of these chemical nasties, trouble is, I don't think they have to list them on the bottle although you should be able to get something off a website. Look at all the stuff that does this to you and I bet they have a common link.

After years of experimenting nothing beats this (http://www.miss-charming.com/recipes/marg.htm) for getting blind without the headache. [primarily Tequila and crushed ice]

Stay away from Beer, Wine [red is bad] and cheap booze.

Before drinking make sure you are well fed and watered, Coffee before or after a drink tends to dry you out.

Mixing drugs [prescription or otherwise] can have unpredictable results, party drugs are a definite no-no.

Smoking is also a bad mixer drying the body out.

I will try that one at our next party or at your birthday party but they can't be strong because i can only handle tequila when i have had a few.As for the rest

Malt whisky should always have a splash of water added. It liberates the volatiles, greatly enhancing the sipping pleasure.

Try crazy mexicans they are an rtd that have tequila, vodka, lime and something else I can't remember its a 6%er or try stark which is flavoured water with vodka it has no hangover and you can still get pissed on it.

If you are into mixing your own my favourite is...

Fresh lime juice, cut or crushed fresh strawberries ginger beer and vodka. Make sure you use decent vodka, try STILL or 42 below vodka. these two vodkas are NZ made and very good. Still is alot cheaper then 42 below.

or 42 below feijoa flavoured vodka and lemonade is nice too.

stay away from codeys and woodstock rtds basically anything with caffeine in them cause they always make me feel ill.

as for party pills and alcohol you can mix them but it recommends you don't. The BAD effect of doing this is it increases you dehydration and will give you a major hangover. If you don't ever want a hangover drink about a litre of water before you go to bed and you'll wake up feel all good.

When I go to work i'll have a look for some more suggestions for you.

peace out

I found that I get very acidy (reflux?) when drinking Vodka and orange or lemon or some shit. I like vodka so I just changed to lemonade. I think those cruiser things are too sweet - built for kiddies. The other option is just to drink vodka straight, which is ok if you drink quality vodka - Old Grey Hen or Absolut or 42 Beolw.

Vodka and Redbull... Just a couple and you'll be rather chirpy...

Malibu and pineapple juice... I find staying away from the fizzy drinks helps...

Just find it strange what was mentioned bout the Vodka Cruisers..... I managed 2 last night and ended up with a splitting headache....

I can't stress drinking water enough... Have one drink.. Then one glass of water... One drink... One glass of water...

Or maybe drinkings just no good... Its for some not for others... If you're body doesn't like it then its best to avoid....

Classic. After lurking for a while on the kb forums, is it a bike thread which pulls the first post out of me? Of course not. It's a drinking thread.

I'm a USAn who has yet to visit your fine country, but am working on plans (hence the lurking here to get a feel for the place through the eyes of common souls). So here's the question: Is Kentucky Bourbon known down there? Of all the whisk[e]ys I enjoy, bourbon on the rocks is the one by which I can properly annihilate myself in the evening without regrets the next morning.

Oh, and... Hi. My name's timk. I like motorbikes.

I know it may sound silly but it could be all the sugar in the premixers. This can cause some people to be quite ill after two or three of them in a very short time.

Mix your own with less sugar or diet soda and see how that works

I know someone who can't drink any of those red-coloured drinks. Apparently they all have histamines and bring her out in rashes along with the headache, runny eyes etc. So sticking with the light coloured drinks is definitely the answer for her. But another friend can only drink reds. White wine makes him quite sick. In his case he thinks it's the preservatives.

That doesn't sound silly at all, I'm sure it's quite common.

Try going back to the real basics for a while. Just mix vodka with soda water and lemon or lime juice. If you want some sweetness, use Rose's lime juice cordial (or maybe an organic brand that doesn't have preservatives?) VERY refreshing and my favourite drink in summer. :sunny:

42 below feijoa is really yummy with phoenix organic ginger beer... it means you avoid the preservatives but it's still pretty sweet. I think they use honey in place of some of the sugar so it might not affect you so badly.

I agree . . . sometimes. I tend to only add water if there is a strong alcohol or peat flavour, otherwise I prefer it straight. Got a bottle of Glenmorangie coming when a mate comes back from SA, looking forward to trying it.

With a more subtle scotch I find a gentle warming of the glass in your hand can do just as good a job of bringing out the flavour, without the watering down.

I joke about it from time to time, but I'm agreed that ice in scotch is most definitely a no-no.

Come on, Vodka is a depressant - ever seen a happy Russian?

Port is the only way to go.
You are never cold when you drink Port, it warms from the inside out with a rich radiance.

Only ever picks you up - always happy when drinking Port, never sad, never argumentative, never sleepy.

20% alcohol so you don't need to drink copious quantities to plastered (if that is your will) and thus you are not bloated or feeling ill from an excess of mixers etc.

No bubbles to upset the stomach or cause flatulence (other than verbal of course).

You can select from a huge variety depending on taste and mood. Anything from cheap draino type brands for quaffing to expensive aged Portuguese vintages for absolute orgasmic pleasure.

Port is the perfect drink.

I second that. Vodka is one of the "cleanest" spirits around, so it's likely it's all the sugar, E numbers and caffeine in the premixes aren't helping things (and the el-cheapo nasty excuse for vodka that they use).

Buy a good qual vodka and add soda water. Not the biggest taste explosion but it has the benefits of being easy on the head and stomach, and also keeps you hydrated!

Regardless, you have my deepest sympathy.

Headache the next day, or after two bottles?

If the next day is the problem, take two extra strength disprins in 600ml+ of water before bed. Get your wife to force you to drink it, no matter how pissed you are, tell her you'll thank her. Water rehydrates you, disprin thins your blood. Never fails. Ask OAB... he hates to drink due to hangovers, worked a treat for him too. Cheers Dad for that tip

If it's Lion product doing that to you, I'd say it's a fair bet it's related to flavour molecules...cos as far as I can tell there's none in any of DB's "beers".

Port is the only way to go.

A couple of months back, a friend made a bet of an evenin' that I couldn't drink a pint of port within 30 minutes. I told him that I sure as hell could, so long as he paid for it.

He had been served, and it was on.

Although actually getting served with a pint of port (in a proper pint glass, natch) proved troublesome. Managed it in the end. Cost him about $100.

I finished well within the time limit. A cigar helped to take the edge off the porty mouthfeel in between gulps.

He claims it was $100 well spent.

I'll never drink port again.
