Have any of you noticed torrents aren't working well? I used to get 35kb+, now im looking at 1.5!

Any suggestions?

Best guess... international traffic problems...

I'm assuming you're not trying to download files with fuck all seeders and leechers.

Next question is; are you with Telecom? They have throttled the fuck out of torrent traffic lately as it's traffic patterns are easily detectable, and many ISP's now do this.

What software are you using? If the answer is standard BitTorrent, then you'll have a struggle getting it to work on an Xtra connection.

Uninstall BitTorrent, and install uTorrent. uTorrent has an encrytption option, which seems to work OK. I used to get 100kb/s plus on BitTorrent, then when I went to the 'Go Large' plan it dropped to 1kb/s sort of deal. I installed uTorrent and now can get between 30-40kb/s consistantly. It is better than nothing.

Also, don't try and download multiple files at once, stick to 2 or 3 max and speeds will be best as it matches your sharing (upload) ratio to your download ratio better.

Yes I'm with telescumbagf****rs. Was on Orcon, which is really good! I'm tempted to pay the $100 disconnection fee just to go back.
Thanks for the tip!

If you're on the Go Large plan torrents are pretty gay. That "Fair Use Policy" and other shitty terms you agree to state they can throttle P2P as much as they want.

I still manage to have uTorrent pulling 30-40kb/s most days and they've never put me in the fair use pool or anything. Usually do over 30gig of use each month, which is OK for the $49.95.

One other thing I've noticed is if uTorrent is running, it makes browsing near impossible it goes so slow, you will probably need to exit uTorrent for browsing, then start it up again after you are finished.

So what port do you use for forwarding?

I use 45000, but you can use any port you want.

To get good torrent speeds on any software you need an opened port. See www.portforward.com for modem/router specific instructions.

If you don't already do it, try throttling your upload traffic a little bit. I read somewhere that can help with browsing and download speeds.

I'm using BitTornado on Slingshot and average 40k but pulled an 800meg movie down today at an average of 110k :Punk:

No need on Go Large, upload speed is only 128k max (so about 24kb/s) and it never reaches that, usually only about 18kb/s max. Good tip though!!!

When I was on my old plan that wasn't under fair use, I could average over 150kb/s for whole days easily. My friend's on Slingshot and gets the same, but the connection is so unconsistant it's not worth it.

Yeah, that's when he had major drama as well. If it's all sweet now I might look into switching over...

Is it 25gig for $49.95 if you switch your tolls too????
