Hey guys and gals.

I've just brought my self a Honda CBR1000f, it needs a new front tyre and some other work but for the price (don't even ask :) ) its a good deal. I should get it late next week if not the next. I'll post pictures once I get it and inform you guys how it rides etc.

I'm quite happy with the purchase as I'm wanting a larger bike for making the big trips up north to the old mans place...oh and to see the places GIJOE talks so highley about.

I really hope its as good (for the price) as the photos and owners says. :scooter: :scooter: :scooter: :scooter: :scooter: :scooter: :scooter:

Oh yeah, if any one knows of any sites with any info and pictures about these bikes that would be great. I might even pay a visit to Roxanne while Im up north...it would be great to see another one of these bikes..as we have none in my town.

I would love to hear about their engines etc. Ive always thought they have tough engines. How many kms would you expect out of one of these bikes...if its been serviced at a normal rate.

what kinda k's has it done also is it a speed limited one? ya can tell from the speedo, if it stops at 180kph ish then its limited, but have heard of an easy fix for that somewhere.
but look forward to the pics of it.
and well done too.

dam thats some impressive miles. but there should still be alot of distance left in that engine. bearings and cam chain would be something too look into, but dam thats brilliant miles. hope to see ya up hear when ya visit roxanne.

Hahaha yep...I'm worried about how the engine will go. My last bike was a RGV250 so I'm kinda use to a high maintance machine...however this is a Honda so Im hoping to get better running out of her. The cam chain was done 2 or so years ago...not sure about how many Miles it was done.

When I get her I will give it new sparkies, carb balance, oil and filter change and a good check over and clean. Once I have got her looking good again and running to 100% I will travel up north to Whangarei to see the Old man and his XJR1300. On the way I hope to meet GIJOE and all the other riders.

Am I right to be worried about the high KMs or with this beast last for ever...

They can last 200kms ive heard from Gud Mech's...

Mine didn't..

And it was maybe thrashed and never serviced...

But seroiusly a Mech won't ever say yes to buying a 130,000km bike...

I think the repair bill for that head damage was $2500ish...But I only paid $1000 for the bike..And when i brought it it had done 62,000kms..

So i had got my moneys worth...

And sold it for $300....

Crazy Steve..

touring they are wicked, shocks on my old girl were bad, check out suspension, if it hasnt been fixed allready. it will need to be done. heavy bike with moderate shocks. if ya havnt brought it careful, the k's are very high. or else you should be able to get it for a cheap (very cheap) price. and long as they did the tensioner on the cam chain, shouldnt be so bad. but with this age and k's id be looking at replacing it, cant trust what they say. what year is it?

1989. What price would you pay for one that has done that many kms and needs about another $400 worth of work?

If the bike has a dash that reads 180MP/h and in small 280KM/h what would the ODO be in...KM or Miles? I remember my brother in-laws CBR600F2 had the same set up but the ODO was Miles as the was the main messurement.

A bike with those sort of Km / miles can be ok if carefully maintained but if not I would budget $1 -2k for repairs to suspension and a good engine overhaul.
I would be expecting front springs replaced, dampers overhauled and maybe fork rechroming. Rear suspension replaced and swing arm rebushed. Head off the motor, valve grind, possibly rings and check the cams and cam chain.

If its really cheap it may be worth it but without seeing it (as I assume you haven't) I would not be expecting a lot. If you go ahead make it subject to your inspection before completing the purchase.

I was going to get a transporter to pick it up. However I think I might give it a miss as I didnt know about the shocks etc etc.

Ok I've done some digging and have found out that if the main speed reading is in Miles then the odo is in Miles and vice versa for Kilometers. Ifffffff any one was interested that was.

IMHO if your'e paying more than $600 and getting it transported, you're a brave geezer. Unless you have a boat as well. Will make an excellent anchor. It is going to cost you money. The biggest mystery is how much. Smaller with lower mileage would be better. Good luck mate.

Could any one confirm this...if I have it wrong the bike has done around 80,000kms.

I have a mate with an RF900 with the same speedo layout ,"ie large numbers are in miles" and his odometer is also in miles.

Thats what I thought...they also confirmed this on CBR forum. However the owner says otherwise...seems to think it is in KMs even though the main reading is in Miles.

I read about an early CBR900RR with 200,000 miles on the clock, altho well maintained from what i gather, Engine work has been one set of rings and a couple of cam chains/tensioners from all accounts, It was used for a world tour from memory. not really relevent i know but still interesting.

In my experiance mate if you are in any doubt about your purchase then you should walk away and give it some more thought.

I think you have chosen wisely.

what was the price, id probably pay for an 89 with that many k's in amazing condition, and nothing wrong with it, about 3k. but knowing it has problems and will need some work maybe 2k at the most. as it will need work soon.
and ya will be chasing it to get things fixed all the time.
not a matter of when will it get from a to b, it will get get from A to B or when will it break down.

kneescraper, take your time - plenty of bikes in that wide world of two wheels of freedom  It just makes the pleasure of finally pootling around on it even more special :woohoo:

And you never know who may end up riding into your neck of the woods just to test out the repairs on a little ol'Hornet! :msn-wink:

I want to be the first madman to ride 100,000kms+ on a little ol'Hornet! :innocent:
