Just joined the forums today after lurking for awhile now. I've been haooy watching bikes for along time now, but have taken the plunge and signed up for basic handling course in 2 weeks time :)
Wanted to know some thoughts on the Honda VTR250? I don't mind getting new or would atleast want a fairly new one. I plan on keeping for atleast 15 months and my wife also wants to learn to ride so we should be able to atleast get some use before eventually moving on.

Excellent choice of bike. They are fast enough, good in town and handle very well. McJim could be selling his soon...

Hiya! Glad to hear you wanting to ride two wheels of freedom - yep, The Scottish Ride Who Shall Not Be Named is the local stalwart of your aforementioned ride, he should be along soon to notch up his support for it!
Remember to get good gear, keep reading all you can on the art of two wheels and above all, have fun and keeping it safe out there! :woohoo: :scooter:

Welcome to the site Jonesy.
Have you considered buying 2 bikes so you and the missus' can ride together?

I've got a VTR that will be on the market in the next few months - depends how soon you want a bike.
Me and the missus have got into bikes recently - if you have the funds to get a VTR new then I would reccomend getting a used VTR and buy another used bike too. The VTR is bulletproof - as long as they are serviced regularly.
My wife has an RG150 but if that's too agressive for your wife (it's a lot faster than the VTR) then an FXR150 might be the go.
Basically $8K gets you a brand spanking new VTR. But will also get you a 3 year old VTR250 and a 4 year old FXR150! then you won't have to share.
I'm about to get my VTR tarted up ready for sale - if I get the right kind of offer I might sell in the next month or so and use my wife's bike for commuting until I've got my full.
If you want to see these bikes in the flesh (and hear the 2 stroke roar of the RG!) drop us a PM and we'll be glad to show them off!

Cue : Sounds of mist on a lonesome highland hill (it was alone since his ostracisation from the other hills)
And the Scottish Rider Who Shall Not be Named has made his dramatis personae entree!
Action : Dramatic flourish of VTR steed of doom, kilted and tarted up figure with mirror visor helmet
Line (from off stage left and right) : Hail to thee! Well met! Long may your breeks reek with the VTR steed of doom!
Scottish Rider Who Shall Not be Named : advernum adjunct ad infinitum ad nauseum addendum to duodenum ... to wit : see post above.

You forgot to take your dried frog pills again didn't you? Either that or you did bump your head on the way down.

Hi and welcome to the site. I started learning on a VTR250 like many on this site and definitely recommend it as a great learners bike. They're trading one in at Botany Honda this week ( on an 07 Fireblade ).

Worse than that.
Only actors are supersticious about saying that name.
The Scottish Rider strike fear into the hearts of all those persons who sit astride a two wheeled mode of transport.
He is the " baron of bin"
The "Duke of destruction"
2nd only to great Baal for mayhem.
