I recieved a leaflet in my mailbox today from "the tool shed" and in the leaflet it had a torin motorcycle lift. They look pretty cool and are $169.90.
Does anyone have one alreay or can comment on how useful/not useful these are? it says it will lift 1500 pounds and lifts from 130mm to 420mm it seems to me that ist could be quite useful for workin on the bike.

They are mainly for quads as they are basically a trolley jack and may not suit a bike. It's not the motorcycle table lift. Some of the advertising is a bit misleading.

We used to sell Torin brand, (Chinese), but dropped them due to quality issues. They're cheap but some stuff may be okay for home use.

if you want to check it out for yourselves then go to www.thetoolshed.co.nz and use the search to look for torin

it does say good for quads and motorbikes but it dosent look like it would lift a single swingarmed bike

I can't remember what brand it was, but I bought my husband a bike lift one year and it was only about $130 from a bike shop. It's not suitable for all his bikes, but he is pretty happy with it. I've got a feeling it was a brand I should remember - something bike-related anyway! If you need to know, PM me and I can check it for you!

Checked the site, it's not the misleading ads I've seen elsewhere.

Problem for bikes is that it's designed to lift under the chassis and most bikes have the exhaust pipes under there. Also at 450 mm lift it's not really much more than axle/paddock stands will give you and you won't be able to do much more than adjust the chain. If you want to change the oils or work at a comfortable height you'll need a proper lifting table.

There are cheap(er) m/cycle lifts around but of course much larger.

A guy in New Plymouth builds and sells table lifts built like a brick shithouse for around the $600 mark.

They probably won't lift a sprotsbike with fairings and exhausts and crap hanging underneath - but they lift all my bikes, and more besides,so I'm happy.
